Huawei E5885 VS Netgear Aircard 790s

We had introduced the Huawei Cat6 Pocket WiFi one month ago. As a new 4G+ Cat6 MiFi, Huawei E5885Ls-93a was added to the Cat6 router list. However, there are many similar 4G LTE pocket WiFi in the market. Netgear Aircard 790s is one of the LTE Cat6 MiFi routers. Somebody had asked what the difference is between the Huawei E5885Ls-93a and Netgear AC790S and which one is better to buy. Today we will take a comparison of the two mobile router and find the answers.

Huawei E5885Ls-93a VS Netgear AC790S Appearance

If you had read our blog about Netgear mobile hotspot, you may know the Netgear Aircard 790s is in a typical design of a Netgear mobile hotspot. It has a touchscreen and it’s the first 4G LTE Pocket WiFi router with a touchscreen. Users can do simple settings from the display. There are a power button and two connectors for high gain LTE antenna. The back cover could be moved to insert SIM card and change the battery.

Unlike Netgear AC790S, Huawei E5885Ls-93a has only a small display to show the connection status. Users cannot do the settings through the display. Different from other Huawei 4G portable router, Huawei E5885Ls-93a is very thick, perhaps because of the large built-in battery packs. The battery of Huawei E5885Ls-93a could not be removed but the back cover could be removed to insert SIM card and SD storage card. Huawei E5885Ls-93a has also an Ethernet port, USB input and output ports, a WPS button and Power button.

Summary

The two Cat6 pocket WiFi routers both could support peak download speed up to 300Mbps. Huawei E5885Ls-93a seems more powerful on other points:

  1. Supports more LTE frequency bands including the bands in North American areas
  2. Support up to 32 wireless devices which are double of the qty from Aircard 790s
  3. Larger battery up to 6400mAh, and it can charge other devices
  4. The Ethernet port supports LAN/WAN and very useful
  5. NFC functions for easy WiFi connection

However, Huawei E5885Ls-93a doesn’t have the connectors for external antennas, which Netgear Aircard 790s has. Since Huawei E5885 is a new model with powerful and practical functions, the price is more expensive than Netgear Aircard 790s price. So if you just need a decent pocket WiFi for daily use, the Netgear AC790S is enough. But if you want the pocket WiFi has more function to meet your requirements, Huawei E5885Ls-93a is worth buying.

Huawei E5885Ls-93a VS Netgear AC800s

As one of the top networking equipment vendor, Netgear had presented many 4G WiFi routers to the public such as the well-known Nighthawk M1, Aircard 810s, Aircard 815s(also known as AT&T Unite Explore) and now a new mobile WiFi router Aircard 800s is available for Australian network provider Optus and it got a new name Optus 4G WiFi modem 800S. The aggressive Chinese competitor Huawei also follows the steps to present new wireless router even though it has many 4G pocket WiFi router available for various network providers such as Huawei E5788, E5787, E5786, E5770, etc…Now the Huawei E5885 is available. Somebody may have the question: What’s the difference between the Netgear Aircard 800s and Huawei E5885? Which one is better to buy for global travel? You may find the answers in this article.

Aircard 800s VS Huawei E5885 Appearance and Interface

If you are familiar with other Netgear mobile hotspot routers, you may know the Netgear 4G mobile hotspots are in very similar design, so as the Netgear Aircard 800s. There is a touchscreen on the front, at the side of the display, there are a Home button and Back button for operation. The Optus logo is also at the side of the screen. The power button is on the top edge side while on the opposite side, there is the USB 3.0 port and two connectors for external LTE antennas. The connector type is TS-9 and covered by two small caps. The back cover could be opened and the battery is removable for exchange and inserting the SIM card.

Unlike most of other Huawei Mobile WiFi 4G, the Huawei E5885 has different features. On the front, there is a small LED screen to show the internet connection status, but it’s not a touchscreen. The Huawei logo is below the screen. The power button and WPS button are on the top edge side. Between the two buttons, there is a small cap, open it, you will see the Ethernet port(RJ45) and two USB ports(Input and output). There is no connector for an external antenna. The back cover could be opened, but the battery is built-in and non-removable. The SIM card slot and Micro SD storage card slot are available. And Huawei E5885 is thicker than Aircard 800s.

Huawei E5885 VS Netgear AC800S Specs and Features

Summary

From the specs table, we can see the Netgear Aircard 800s(Optus 4G WiFi modem 800s) is more advanced technology, it supports LTE cat.9 and can achieve download speed up to 450Mbps while the Huawei E5885Ls-93s supports LTE Cat.6 and achieve download speed up to 300mbps. They are configured with a different chipset. The Optus 4G WiFi modem 800s supports less LTE frequency bands than that of Huawei E5885LS-93a, so Huawei E5885ls-93 would support more LTE network providers worldwide. Huawei Mobile WiFi E5885 supports 32 wireless users while Netgear AC800S supports only 15 users. However, there is no external antenna connector in Huawei E5885, which is not good for users who will go the areas with weak signal.

The Huawei E5885 large battery pack is really good, the capacity of 6400mAh makes it work like a mobile power bank to charge other devices. And the RJ45 Ethernet port is for both LAN and WAN, which is very useful for travel. From the specs comparison, we can conclude that the Optus 800s would provide faster surfing speed with advanced technology. However, the Huawei E5885 powerful and practical functions are also attractive and friendly for users. If you just need to get faster speed, the Netgear 800 is recommended and the price is attractive. But if you want a powerful pocket WiFi with multi-functions, the Huawei E5885 would be no doubt better to consider.

Huawei E5885 VS Huawei E5770

You may have known the Huawei Mobile WiFi Pro E5770, as the first generation of Huawei 4G mobile hotspot with Ethernet port and SIM card slot, Huawei E5770 had gained a very good reputation. Open the back cover, the SIM card slot and SD card slot can be found. On the back cover, it indicates 5200mAh battery. The battery is built-in and non-removable. Unlike other Huawei Mobile WiFi, we can’t find the connectors for external antennas.

Following the design of Huawei E5770, the Huawei E5885 also has a small display on the front to show the connection status. The power button, WPS button, USB ports and Ethernet port are all in the same position like E5770. The difference is that the Huawei E5885 is thicker than the E5770, perhaps because it’s configured with a large battery of 6400mAh, which is shown on the back cover. The Huawei E5770 has black and white colors available while the new Huawei E5885 has the pink & black and black & gold colors.

Netgear Aircard 810s vs Huawei E5885Ls-93a

More and more new Huawei LTE advanced pocket WiFi routers are available in the market, which would be the powerful competitor to the 4G modem router from Netgear wireless. Huawei E5885 is a new 4G pocket WiFi router at the end of 2017. Netgear AirCard 810s was available in 2016 and has already been the best seller in Netgear 4G Routers. Someone may ask: what’s the difference between the Huawei E5885 and Netgear AC810S? Which one to buy from the two mobile routers? In this article, we will review the appearance, interfaces, specs, price, and other features to answer the questions.

AirCard 810S VS Huawei E5885 Appearance and Interfaces

Since the Aircard 810s was available in the market for around 2 years, you may already know the Netgear AC810s, which is the world’s first LTE cat.11 mobile hotspot. On the front, there is a 2.4-inch touchscreen with “Home” and “Back” buttons at the screen side. The touchscreen allows users to do simple settings for internet connection. The power button is on the top edge side while on the opposite side, two connectors for an external antenna and USB 3.0 port are located. Like other Netgear 4G WiFi routers, the two connectors are a TS-9 type. The back cover of the Aircard 810s could be opened and the battery is removable.

Huawei E5885 may not be as well-known as Aircard 810s but it has unique features. Here now the market has only the E5885Ls-93a available. Not sure whether there will be a new variant model available in near future. The Huawei E5885 is thicker than common 4G mobile hotspots because it has a large built-in battery of 6400mAh. There is also a small screen on the front, but not touchable. The power button and WPS button are on the top edge side of the Ethernet port and USB ports. You much open the cap to see the ports. However, unlike other Huawei mobile router 4G, the Huawei E5885 doesn’t have the connectors for external antennas. The back cover could be removed but the built-in battery can’t be removed. The Huawei E5885 and Netgear Aircard 810s both use Micro SIM card size. The E5885 has also the Micro SD card slot for storage.

Netgear AirCard 810s vs Huawei E5885Ls-93a Specs and Features

From the appearance, we can see the Huawei E5885 and Netgear Aircard 810s are very different. Then let’s have a review about the Huawei E5885Ls-93a specs and Netgear AC810S specs.

Summary

From the specs table, we can see the new Huawei E5885Ls-93a 4G hotspot supports LTE category 6 while the old model Netgear 810S supports LTE Cat.11, which could achieve almost double faster speed than that of Huawei E5885. However, the Huawei E5885 has many features that are very powerful. Firstly, the Huawei E5885 has one Ethernet port for WAN and LAN, which would provide more connection possibility, especially when the 4G connection is not available and only an Ethernet connection is available. Secondly, the Huawei E5885Ls-93a could support maximum users up to 32 users while Netgear Aircard 810s supports only 15 users. Thirdly, the Huawei E5885Ls-93a has a large battery pack of 6400mAh, which would keep working for a long time and charge other devices. The AirCard 810s also has the JumpBoost, which is to charge devices. However, the battery of 2930mAh seems weaker than Huawei E5885 battery.

However, the more advanced Netgear 810S has the same price as the latest new Huawei E5885. If you need a practical 4G mobile WiFi hotspots, Huawei E5885 seems to be more powerful and useful. But if you just need a faster internet connection, the Netgear Aircard 810s is the right one to recommend.

Huawei E5885Ls-93a VS Huawei E5788u-96a

More and more Huawei LTE advanced mobile routers are available in the market now. Many customers are not satisfied with the basic LTE and want to get higher LTE speeds. The backcover of Huawei E5788 can’t be removed and the battery is built-in and non-removable.

The Huawei Mobile WiFi Pro 2 E5885 is also the latest new LTE-A mobile router. The typical feature is that it has one Ethernet port and USB input and output interfaces. There is only one small screen on the front to show the connection status. The power button and WPS are located at the two sides of the interfaces. Similarly, the Huawei E5885 also has no connector for external antenna. The Huawei E5885 is thicker than the normal Huawei E5 pocket WiFi hotspots. The battery of Huawei E5885 is also non-removable; however, the backcover can be removed. Huawei E5885 and E5788 both use Micro SIM size. The Huawei E5885 has the slot for Micro SD storage but E5788 has not.

Summary

From the specs, the Huawei E5788 is more advanced with the support of LTE advanced Pro technologies, such as 4 x 4 MIMO and 4CC CA. And Huawei E5788 supports more LTE frequency bands, which make it could be used more widely. The highlight of Huawei E5788 LTE router should be the data transmission speed, it can reach peak download speed up to 1Gigabit/s, which is three times faster than that of Huawei E5885. The advanced features make the Huawei E5788 hotspot price expensive.

As a new LTE-A mobile hotspot, Huawei E5885 could achieve download speed to 300mbps. They both support maximum users up to 32 devices. In most case, the Huawei E5885 is good enough for our daily lives. The highlight of Huawei E5885 is the Ethernet port, which is for WAN & LAN and provides more options for internet connection. What’s more, the large battery of Huawei E5885Ls-93a can make it work like a power bank to charge other devices. So the Huawei E5885 has more powerful functions than E5788. And the Huawei E5885 is in a cheaper price than E5788. If you just need a mobile hotspot supporting much faster speed, there is no doubt the Huawei E5788 is the right one. If you want to get a practical and powerful pocket WiFi, then Huawei E5885 would be the right one.

Huawei E5885 Mobile WiFi Pro2 Test

As a successor of the popular Huawei E5770 LTE hotspot, the Huawei E5885 Mobile WiFi Pro2 is now presented to market. The Huawei E5885 comes with a fast LTE Cat6 modem for speeds up to 300 Mbps in the downlink and up to 50 Mbps in the uplink. Compared to its predecessor, the battery has been increased again, it now offers a capacity of 6,400 mAh. Compared to other mobile hotspots, the integrated RJ45 Ethernet port is certainly the most important unique selling proposition. This review will highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the Huawei E5885 Mobile WiFi Pro2 for and pinpoint whether it is worth buying.

Before we take a close look at the technical data, we can see the model of the device: black Huawei E5885Ls-93a (this is the exact model name for the European version). Connected to the hotspot is a small hand strap, which is also a USB to micro USB cable. Furthermore, it comes with a power supply with an output of 5V/2A and the corresponding USB to Micro-USB cable to charge the device.

In addition, Huawei E5885 comes with a small adapter from Micro-USB to USB Type C, so that even modern smartphones can easily charge with the power bank function of the Huawei E5885. Finally, you will find in the packaging a printed warranty notice and a multilingual quick start guide.

Huawei E5885: technology

In my test, I used the Huawei E5885 in black color, the material on the front and on the back is reminiscent of synthetic leather and feels quite high quality. The back of the Huawei E5885 can be removed for insertion of the SIM card and optionally a MicroSD memory card. You need a MicroSIM card, but if you use it carefully, you can also use Nano-SIM cards with an adapter on MicroSIM.

The battery is not changeable. On the back are important information about the device, including the WLAN name and various passwords. All ports are hidden under a cover on the side of the Huawei E5885. There you will find a micro-USB port for charging the device, a full-size USB port for using the Powerbank function and a RJ45 Ethernet LAN connection.

On the front there is a small monochrome display, which shows the most important information about the Internet connection and the device itself, such as the signal strength, the battery level and the number of connected WLAN devices. If you press the power button, which is located on the side of the E5885, you can display the WLAN password in plain text. There is also a WPS button on the side of the hotspot and an NFC antenna on the front for easy Wi-Fi connection without the hassle of entering the password.

Compared to other mobile LTE hotspots like the Huawei E5787 or the Netgear AirCard 810, the Huawei E5885’s display is very small. In addition, the information displayed is often difficult to read due to strong reflections of the cover.

The configuration of the Huawei Mobile WiFi Pro2 E5885 must be done either via the browser Web Interface or the Huawei HiLink App, which is available for iOS and Android. Both the smartphone app and the web interface are easy to use and available in various languages. Much more detailed setting options are available via the web interface clearly, but the app is completely sufficient for everyday use; the most important functions such as SMS, memory card access or configuration of the WLAN extender are also available via the app.

Huawei E5885: Details about the WLAN

The maximum of 32 devices can be supplied with an internet connection at the same time. Both the frequency range around 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz is supported, the maximum speed on my Apple MacBook Pro was just below 600 Mbit/s. That’s enough to use the maximum modem speed of theoretically 300 MBit/s on the laptop. Of course, the WLAN range depends on various factors, in my test I was able to receive the WLAN signal in the 2.4 GHz band but also over 10m distance and through two walls and surf the Internet fluently. For some users certainly a negative point: there is no way to completely disable the WLAN. Even if only USB or LAN is used for Internet access, the WLAN is active.

Huawei E5885: wireless extender

The WLAN Extender feature has become very important to many users. This feature allows you to use an existing Wi-Fi network as Internet access. This can save data volume on the SIM card. Fortunately, the Huawei E5885 also has a WLAN extender function, which tested perfectly and was very easy to set up. The maximum number of possible WLAN devices is reduced to 31 when using the Extender function. It was noticeable that the speed was limited to about 15 megabits per second – even if the original wireless has made much higher speeds possible. For daily use, the speed of 15 Mbit/s is probably sufficient for most of the users.

Huawei E5885: No Gigabit Ethernet

The RJ45 Ethernet LAN port on the Huawei E5885 side can be used to provide Internet access to a wired device such as a desktop PC. In the test, this worked fine. There is also the option of using the LAN port as an Internet access instead of the cellular modem. This also worked perfectly smoothly in the test, the LAN connection was recognized immediately and the Internet access was established. Unfortunately, the RJ45 Ethernet port supports only 100Mbps connections – Gigabit LAN is not supported. This is annoying, because thus the full modem speed over LAN is not usable.

Huawei E5885: LTE Speedtest

In the test, Huawei Mobile WiFi Pro2 E5885 used SIM card from Vodafone. The reception was quite good at LTE band 3 and 20. Positive: even in regions with a very weak LTE signal, you could still surf fluently, even if downloads lasted much longer. Compared to a Netgear AirCard 810 hotspot, it was noticeable that the uplink speeds were often slightly slower than those of the competing device – but all in all, the data rates of the E5885 were good.

Theoretically, the modem allows speeds of up to 300 MBit/s in the downlink and 50 MBit/s in the uplink via LTE, in the test at least about 200/45 Mbit/s were measurable. In most cases, the speed is well below the maximum possible, since the LTE radio cells are now well utilized. Of course, the Huawei E5885 also supports 3G and 2G as a backup and if desired, you can also specify the network technology in the web interface manually (4G only, 3G only, etc.).

Unfortunately, the Huawei E5885 has no external antenna connections, which is quite unusual, because most other mobile hotspots have these connections. If you want to use the Huawei E5885 abroad, you should pay attention to the supported frequency bands. The Huawei E5885Ls-93a (European version) is perfectly suited for use in Europe, partly also in North America and Asia is possible. For non-European travel, however, it is best to first clarify which frequency bands are relevant in the destination country.

Huawei E5885: battery and power bank function

The battery of the Huawei E5885 has a capacity of 6,400 mAh. That should be the largest battery of a mobile LTE hotspot currently. In my review, I was able to achieve a useful life of about 20 hours with continuous use of the hotspot feature. Of course, it takes a long time to charge the battery – the device had to charge about 5 hours with the included 5V / 2A power supply. The Power Bank function to charge other devices worked perfectly in the test. Pleasing is the high output power of 5V/2A, so that current smartphones can be charged quite quickly.

Huawei E5885: test conclusion

After about two weeks of testing, I can recommend the Huawei E5885 to anyone looking for a hotspot with a fast LTE modem, a strong battery, and an Ethernet LAN port. The device worked perfectly in the test and provided a stable and fast internet connection at all times. Another positive feature was the fast and easy-to-use web interface and the WLAN Extender function. The powerbank function is also helpful and is very well complemented by the included accessories.

However, the Huawei Mobile Wi-Fi Pro2 E5885 hotspot also has weak points, as the test has shown. There are no connections for an external LTE antenna and even when using the Ethernet connection there is no possibility to completely switch off the WLAN module. With the 100 MBit/s connections, it is incomprehensible why Huawei has not installed a Gigabit Ethernet connection, only about one third of the maximum LTE modem speed can be used over LAN. Even the very small display is quite a weak point.

Despite the mentioned weaknesses, the Huawei E5885 is a very good device, the bottom line is the price-performance ratio. Of course, there are alternatives: if you do not need a LTE Cat6 or 5 GHz WLAN, you can confidently use the predecessor Huawei E5770.

Difference between Huawei E5786 and E5885

It has been months since the Huawei Mobile WiFi Pro 2 was released to market and we had introduced this new 4G router in details. If you had used the Huawei first LTE cat6 mobile router, you may know the Huawei E5786 4G hotspot. Today, we will have a look at what’s the difference between the Huawei E5885 and E5786.

Appearance

As we introduced before, the Huawei E5885(available model called E5885Ls-93a) follows the design of the Huawei E5770 Mobile WiFi Pro. On the front upper side, there is only a small screen to show connection information. The upper side is made of plastic but looks cool, the below part is made of high quality leather, which makes it feels very good in hand. Huawei logo is on the leather.  The whole body of Huawei E5786 is made of plastic, but it also feels good and slippery. The Huawei logo and power button are located at each side of the screen of E5786.

On the back of Huawei E5786, there is Huawei logo with “mobile WiFi”. The Huawei E5885 back has Huawei logo and words “CAT6/6400mAh/23Wh” which indicates the mobile router is a LTE Category 6 mobile hotspot with 6400mAh battery for 23 hours working time.

The Huawei E5885 power and WPS button are located at the top edge. Between them, the Output and input USB ports, and the Ethernet port are covered by a small cap. The Huawei E5786 has a menu button on the top edge and USB port is at the opposite side.

Huawei E5786 back logo

The back cover of Huawei E5885 and E5786 can be opened. In the Huawei E5885, we can see the SIM card slot and Micro SD card slot are located, where there is a reset button in red. Below is a label with the model number, IMEI number, SSID, WiFi key, IP address, user name and password. One QR code is also included so as to scan and connect. The Huawei E5786 also has the SIM card and MicroSD card slot lying together. What’s more, two TS-9 connectors for external antennas are covered by a cap. However, there is no antenna connector in Huawei E5885.

Technical Specifications

The Huawei E5885 and E5786 are both LTE cat6 mobile hotspot which could support LTE download speed up to 300Mbps and upload speed to 50Mbps. They both provide variants for different carriers and various LTE frequency bands. The WLAN standard supports latest 802.11ac with dual band. Huawei E5786 could support up to 10 wireless devices to access internet through WiFi while the latest Huawei E5885 supports maximum up to 32 users. They both use the Micro SIM card. The Huawei E5885 provides one more connection by Ethernet cable while Huawei E5786 can only keep connected with SIM card.

Battery

The back cover of the Huawei E5786 and E5885 can be opened, but the battery of them can’t be removed for change. The battery of Huawei E5786 is 3000mAh, which can keep working for 10 hours. While the Huawei E5885 has larger battery of 6400mAh, which would provide 23 hours working time. They both can charge other electric devices as a mobile power bank. However, the Huawei E5786 needs an accessory call AF18 adapter to make this function true. The Huawei E5885 can directly charge other devices without any problem.

What’s more, the Huawei E5885 has a special USB cable with the device. The USB cable can be used as a lifting rope, which is really a smart and practical design. The Huawei E5786 uses the normal USB 2.0 cable for charging.

From the comparison, we think there is no doubt that the latest Huawei E5885 is much better than the E5786, ont only on the design but also the practical functions. So if you are looking for a wonderful mobile hotspot, we think Huawei E5885 is good to recommend.

ZTE UFi MF980 VS UFi MF970

With the upgrade of LTE network to LTE Advanced or Advanced PRO, the vendors are also trying to upgrade their wireless gadgets so as to meet the market demand. As we introduced the ZTE MF970 UFi last year, ZTE presented a new 4G LTE Router ZTE UFi MF980 as a successor. In this article, we will see what has been improved on the new ZTE MF980 UFi comparing to ZTE MF970.

Appearance

As we showed the images, ZTE MF970 UFi is in white color and the screen is on the middle of front with “ZTE” and “UFi” listed at each side of the 1.44 inch screen. Following this design, ZTE MF980 UFi also has a 1.44 inch screen and the same two words ZTE and UFi, but MF980 is in black color. But ZTE MF980 is thinner than MF970 and has long body.

ZTE MF980 has power and func button on the top edge, which is same to ZTE MF970, but the SIM card slot is also with the two buttons in MF970, while the SIM card slot is at the opposite edge in ZTE MF980. The two connectors for external antenna for ZTE MF980 are located together while the MF970 has two connectors located at each side of the USB 2.0 port, where ZTE UFi MF980 has USB3.0 port. On the back, UFi MF980 has ZTE logo on while the MF970 shows some information about certificate for CE, WiFi and RoHS.

Technical Specifications

As we introduced before, the ZTE UFi MF970 is a LTE Category 6 mobile router which could support peak download speed to 300mbps and upload speed to 50mbps. In real product, it may be the Vodafone R226 or R226Z model. As the upgraded model for LTE advanced network, ZTE MF980 UFi supports LTE category 9 technologies and peak download speed to 450Mbps and upload speed to 50Mbps. They both support the common LTE FDD & TDD networks with 3G UMTS and 2G GSM networks backward. On this point, there is no doubt that ZTE MF980 UFi is more powerful than ZTE MF970 if working on LTE-A networks.

ZTE UFi MF970 could support up 14 wireless terminals to access internet when working with a valid SIM card, while the new MF980 UFi can support almost double of the qty to 32 WiFi-enabled devices. They both provide the WLAN standard to latest 802.11 ac with dual-band.

Battery

Like Huawei E5786 4G Mobile Hotspot, the ZTE MF970 and MF980 are both with the built-in battery, which can’t be removed for change. One question that we don’t understand is that the newer model ZTE UFi MF980 has battery capacity to 2200mAh when the predecessor MF970 has larger battery to 2300mAh. Many of the current 4G mobile router with same level are with 3000mAh battery or even more. What frustrating is the battery can’t be removed for backup battery. So if you would keep them working for long time, you’d better to take a bank power with large capacity. On this point, the latest Huawei E5885Ls-93a seems more powerful with LTE-A support and built-in large battery.

Summary

There is no doubt that the ZTE MF980 UFi is powerful on technical features, especially working on LTE advanced Pro networks for multiple users with group activities. But the decent battery would limit its long term performance. ZTE MF970 UFi is also good if you don’t quite need the LTE advanced pro network and just need a budget mobile pocket router. After reviewing the two ZTE LTE UFi, which one will you buy?

Huawei E5885 LTE Mobile WiFi Pro 2 Available

Huawei recently introduced a new 4G Mobile router as a successor to the popular Huawei E5770 Mobile WiFi Pro Hotspot: the Huawei E5885 (Mobile WiFi Pro2). The LTE router offers a 6,400 mAh strong battery, which is to allow up to 25 hours of operating time and, of course, besides the usual WLAN, an RJ45 LAN connection is again available. The integrated LTE modem is twice as fast as the predecessor with up to 300 MBit/s for download. The Huawei E5885 is only available in Asia now. In Europe, the device is only yet available.

LTE Cat6

The E5885Ls-93a version, which is currently available in the online market, is intended for the Asian market. Most of the packaging is labeled in Chinese or English and the supported frequency bands mainly take into account the Asian needs. Nevertheless, according to the data sheet from Huawei, the Huawei E5885 also supports all LTE frequency bands (volume 3, 7, 8, 20) which are important for Europe areas. Also UMTS on 2100/900 MHz and GSM network are supported.

In comparison to the predecessor Huawei E5770, the speed is also important to note: the support of LTE category 6, ie up to 300 MBit/s in the downlink and up to 150 MBit/s in the uplink. LTE Cat6 with channel bundling (Carrier Aggregation) is now used by many network operators and therefore one should notice the improved modem in some situations. However, it is not particularly advanced, because the Netgear AC810 LTE Hotspots have been available for long time, which can reach 600 MBit/s (LTE Cat12) for download.

RJ45 LAN & WLAN

The Huawei E5885Ls-93a is particularly interesting because it offers a full RJ45 LAN connection. This allows devices without WLAN to be connected to the network without any problems, without the need for additional software, as well as to use the Ethernet port for Internet access and to use the E5885 as a WLAN hotspot without mobile radio. Something strange, however, appears the fact that the connection is a “normal” 100 Mbps LAN connection, where the LTE modem can use up to 300 MBit/s.

If you want to use the full modem speed, then must be forced on Wi-Fi. According to Huawei, up to 32 devices can be supplied simultaneously with the Internet, the speed should be better thanks to 802.11ac standard (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) in the best case than over LAN.

Large battery

Another unique feature of the Huawei E5885 Mobile WiFi Pro2 is the huge 6.400 mAh battery. Up to 25 hours of operating time should be possible. As an alternative to the predecessor, the device can be used as a power bank, for which a corresponding charging cable is already included in the package box.

Summary

Huawei E5885 is a good mobile 4G Router with powerful function for multiple situations. It’s cool in appearance and supports LTE advanced network. When Huawei presents the English versions for global market, we suppose it would be great gadget star in future.
