Netgear Aircard 810s vs Huawei E5885

More and more new Huawei LTE advanced pocket WiFi routers are available in the market, which would be the powerful competitor to the 4G LTE mobile hotspot from Netgear wireless. Huawei E5885 is a new 4G pocket WiFi router at the end of 2017. Netgear AirCard 810s was available in 2016 and has already been the best seller in Netgear 4G Routers. Someone may ask: what’s the difference between the Huawei E5885 and Netgear AC810S? Which one to buy from the two mobile routers? In this article, we will review the appearance, interfaces, specs, price, and other features to answer the questions.

Appearance and interfaces

Since the Aircard 810s was available in the market for around 2 years, you may already know the Netgear AC810s, which is the world’s first LTE cat.11 mobile hotspot. On the front, there is a 2.4-inch touchscreen with “Home” and “Back” buttons at the screen side. The touchscreen allows users to do simple settings for internet connection. The power button is on the top edge side while on the opposite side, two connectors for an external antenna and USB 3.0 port are located. Like other Netgear 4G WiFi routers, the two connectors are a TS-9 type. The back cover of the Aircard 810s could be opened and the battery is removable.

Huawei E5885 may not be as well-known as Aircard 810s but it has unique features. Here now the market has only the E5885Ls-93a available. Not sure whether there will be a new variant model available in near future. The Huawei E5885 is thicker than common 4G mobile hotspots because it has a large built-in battery of 6400mAh. There is also a small screen on the front, but not touchable. The power button and WPS button are on the top edge side of the Ethernet port and USB ports. You much open the cap to see the ports. However, unlike other Huawei mobile router 4G, the Huawei E5885 doesn’t have the connectors for external antennas. The back cover could be removed but the built-in battery can’t be removed. The Huawei E5885 and Netgear Aircard 810s both use Micro SIM card size. The E5885 has also the Micro SD card slot for storage.

Summary

From the specs table, we can see the new Huawei E5885Ls-93a 4G hotspot supports LTE category 6 while the old model Netgear 810S supports LTE Cat.11, which could achieve almost double faster speed than that of Huawei E5885. However, the Huawei E5885 has many features that are very powerful. Firstly, the Huawei E5885 has one Ethernet port for WAN and LAN, which would provide more connection possibility, especially when the 4G connection is not available and only Ethernet connection is available. Secondly, the Huawei E5885Ls-93a could support maximum users up to 32 users while Netgear Aircard 810s supports only 15 users. Thirdly, the Huawei E5885Ls-93a has a large battery pack of 6400mAh, which would keep working for a long time and charge other devices. The AirCard 810s also has the JumpBoost, which is to charge devices. However, the battery of 2930mAh seems weaker than Huawei E5885 battery.

However, the more advanced Netgear 810S has the same price as the latest new Huawei E5885. If you need a practical 4G mobile WiFi hotspots, Huawei E5885 seems to be more powerful and useful. But if you just need a faster internet connection, the Netgear Aircard 810s is the right one to recommend.

Huawei knows a lot about the network business, so it’s no wonder that local operators often rely on solutions from this company. Based on the LTE category 11, the redesigned router B618s-22d is particularly future-proof. Up to 600 Mbit/s can be achieved in the download, in the upload a maximum of 50 Mbit/s is possible. To ensure good 4G reception, Huawei has integrated the multi-antenna technology 4 × 4 MIMO. However, if the LTE network is not available, the data can also be transmitted via HSPA with a peak bandwidth of 42.2 Mbit/s. Backward compatibility with 2G radio (GSM / GPRS) finally provides the last straw in mobile communications. Regarding the LTE frequency bands, the Speedbox LTE IV covers all relevant frequency bands on B1, B3, B7, B8, B20.

Interfaces of the Speedbox LTE IV

A good LTE reception at the router is of course only half the task, the data packets must also be forwarded accordingly quickly and efficiently to the terminals. With the Wifi connection 802.11 ac, smartphones, tablets and notebooks can benefit from a fast connection. Thanks to dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), up to 1.9 Gbit/s are possible. Alternatively, an Ethernet connection is available via two Gigabit-capable LAN ports. In terms of USB, the Telekom has upgraded with his variant. The original model “Huawei B618s-22d” comes only with a USB port and high quality telephone is also possible with this router, however, the Speedbox LTE IV gets with only two LAN ports.  A telephone system does not exist; but the Huawei B618 router is originally VoLTE- compatible and can handle VoIP. The Telekom Speedbox LTE IV has cut the telephone function.

Special features of the Speedbox LTE IV

If the reception is not sufficient, the buyer can use an external antenna solution.  The SIM card slot is a bit out of date and comes in the micro-SIM version. If necessary, an adapter must be used. An integrated firewall provides the necessary security, and the router can be configured via a web interface.

The package content consists of a plug-in power supply, a LAN cable and a quick start guide. The maximum power consumption of the Speedbox LTE IV is 24 watts. The price of Speedbox LTE IV is not cheap now. If you want to get an unlocked device, we suggest you take the original Huawei B618s-22d with the WAN & LAN ports, and the USB & VoIP telephone ports.

Huawei E5885 VS Nighthawk M1

In past years, 4G mobile routers with SIM card slot are becoming more and more well-known because they are of small size and can be easily taken in a handbag or in a pocket. Nowadays, more and more people would prefer the 4G routers with Ethernet port, which would provide one more option for internet connection. What’s the more, the manufacturers usually configure the 4G routers with Ethernet with large battery pack, which makes the 4G pocket router work like a power bank to charge other devices. Huawei was the first manufacturer to release its 4G mobile router with Ethernet port, and now the Netgear follows. Huawei E5885 is the latest 4G mobile hotspot with Ethernet and Netgear present the Nighthawk M1 as its first 4G router with Ethernet. Someone may ask: what’s the difference between Huawei E5885 and Nighthawk M1? Which one is better? You may find the answers after reading this article.

Appearance and Interface

Actually, before the Huawei E5885 was presented, Huawei had released a few mobile hotspots with Ethernet port such as E5151, E5730, E5351, E5770, E5771, which are a series mobile router with Ethernet. It has been proved this series of MiFi hotspots are very popular in the end-users. Now the upgraded Huawei E5885 is available with more advanced features and cool design. On the front of E5885, the upper part is LED screen while the lower part is leather material with Huawei logo. The touch feels in hand is very much better than the predecessor models. And it’s much thicker than the mobile hotspot E5770 and E5771. The power button, WPS, and the Interfaces are located at the top edge side of the body. The Ethernet port and USB ports are covered by a square cap, which you have to open it to see. The back cover could be removed, however, like the Huawei E5786, the battery is built-in and non-changeable. The Mirco SIM card slot and SD storage card slot are available with the reset button.

The Nighthawk M1 also has a thick body. On the front, there is a round screen, like E5885, it’s also not a touchscreen. There are battery and data transmission indicators around the screen. The Netgear logo and carrier logo are on the side of the screen. The power button is on the top side and the Ethernet & USB ports are located on the opposite side. The difference is Netgear Nighthawk M1 has two connectors for external antenna, which is missing in Huawei E5885. And the USB input ports for Nighthawk M1 and the Huawei E5885 are different. The Nighthawk M1 back cover could be removed and unlike Huawei E5885, the battery could also be removed for exchange. The Netgear M1 also use Micro SIM card size, but no slot for SD card.

Specs and Variant models

Since the network frequency bands are different in different countries or areas, the Nighthawk M1 has around three variant models: Telstra Nighthawk M1, AT&T Nighthawk M1, and another variant model for Europe market. The Huawei E5885 has only one variant model: Huawei E5885Ls-93a. It seems to be a global version, however, in China, the Huawei E5885LS-93a in China has only one language (Chinese) available. In other countries such as Saudi Arabia or Romania, we found they have many languages available, at least with the English language.

From the appearance, we can see the Nighthawk M1 and Huawei E5885 are very different in the design. To know more difference, let’s have a look at the detail specs of the Nighthawk M1 and E5885:

Summary

From the specs, we can see the Nighthawk M1 Router is more advanced with the support of LTE Cat.16, which could achieve downloads speeds up to 1Gigabit/s and upload speed to 100Mbps. The speed is much faster than that of Huawei E5885. The LTE Advanced Pro technologies would provide amazing surfing experience. The Nighthawk M1 variant models could be used globally after unlocking. However, there is maybe limitation due to network incompatibility. The Huawei E5885LS-93a seems to be more open for global travel. It covers the main frequency bands in all the areas.

The Nighthawk M1 could support maximum users up to 20 while Huawei E5885 mobile hotspot supports up to 32 users. The Ethernet port in Huawei E5885 is for WAN and LAN but the port in Netgear M1 is only for LAN, which may not be as good as expected for the Ethernet. The Huawei E5885 has a large battery capacity of 6400mAh while Netgear MR100 has around 5040 mAh battery; however, the removable battery of Nighthawk M1 seems better than Huawei E5885 built-in battery. The missing of antenna connector in Huawei E5885 is also criticized while the Netgear M1 has two connectors for external 4G antenna, which is very useful if using the device in weak signal areas. Per the feedback from the users of Nighthawk M1, it’s the best 4G router with Ethernet. However, the advanced Nighthawk M1 price is more expensive, so if you would buy Nighthawk M1, the price is an important concern.

Summary

From the specs table, we can see the Huawei B618 router is more advanced than unlocked Huawei E5186 router. LTE CPE B618 could support downlink speed up to 600Mbps with 4 x 4 MIMO technology, which is almost double faster than that of Huawei E5186. The two variant models of the two routers cover similar LTE frequency bands, which mean they are designed for same areas. However, the advanced Huawei B618 has fewer Ethernet interfaces than Huawei E5186. If you would use the router with more than 2 devices through Ethernet port, you’d better select the Huawei E5186 as a home or office router. However, if you use the router mainly through WiFi, the Huawei B618 router would be very good. Since the two Huawei Routers would provide wireless internet for up to 64 users, Huawei B618 provider fast internet speeds.

Of course, the Huawei B618 provide faster speeds with advanced technologies, the price would be more expensive than Huawei E5186 router. So if you don’t have enough budget for B618 CPE, the Huawei 5186 is recommended, in our test, it’s good enough for most cases in our daily life.

Huawei E5788 VS Huawei E5787 – Huawei 4G Hotspot Comparison

Huawei E5788 is new LTE Advanced Pro mobile hotspot and was available on the market for few months. Upgrading from the predecessor Huawei E5787 LTE Cat.6 mobile hotspot, Huawei E5788 has many new features to highlight. However, some people don’t know the new Huawei hotspot 4G or don’t know what has been improved in the new hotspot. Someone may ask what the difference is between Huawei E5788 and E5787. Today, we will have a review of the difference between the new Huawei 4G hotspots.

Appearance and Interfaces

If you had used the Huawei E5787 Mobile WiFi hotspot, you may know the touchscreen, which is the first 4G Mobile hotspot with a 2.4-inch touchscreen. As a high-level LTE hotspot, Huawei E5788 followed this feature but unlike the Huawei E5787, the touchscreen is on the left half of the front body. The touchscreen of Huawei E5787 is in the middle of the front body. They both have standard Micro USB 3.0 interface. The Huawei E5787 has two TS-9 connectors for external antenna, however, the Huawei E5788 doesn’t have a connector for external antenna, which is widely criticized. The two connectors of Huawei E5787 are covered by a small cap, and it’s at the side of the USB port. At the side of Huawei E5788 USB port, it’s the SIM card slot. The two mobile hotspots both use Micro SIM card size. They both have the power button on the top edge side of the body.

The one point of the difference between of Huawei E5787 and E5788 is that the back cover of Huawei E5787 could be removed so that the users could insert the SIM card to the slot. And the Huawei E5787 could be removed for exchange. However, the back cover and battery of Huawei E5788 are non-removable. The non-removed battery feature is very similar to Huawei E5786.

Specifications and variant models

Like Huawei E5786, the Huawei E5787 has a few variant models for different LTE frequency bands from many network providers worldwide. As we know, Huawei E5787 has three variant models: Huawei E5787s-33a, Huawei E5787Ph-67a, and Huawei E5787Ph-92a. Huawei E5788 has only one variant model now and the specific model is E5788u-96a. But we believe there will be more variant models for the E5788 Hotspot in near future. Summary

From the specs table, we can see the Huawei E5788 is much more advanced than E5787. It could achieve download speed up to 1Gbps, which is almost three times than that of E5787. The advanced LTE features make the E5788 more expensive than Huawei Router E5787. However, the missing of an external antenna connector in Huawei E5788 is not good for many users if you are located in areas of weak signal. The Huawei E5787 antenna and the removable feature is good to mention.

Huawei E5788 LTE Router could support maximum up to 32 users while Huawei E5787 only supports to 10 WiFi-enabled devices. So if you have a group of people for internet access more than 10 users, the Huawei E5788 would meet your requirement. The Huawei E5788 is powerful in functions; however, the Huawei E5788 price is in high level now. Huawei E5787 price is much lower than E5788, and for most users, it could fully meet the requirements for daily internet access.

Netgear Aircard 800s vs Aircard 810S

As a popular series of LTE gadgets, Netgear 4G aircards are well-known many countries in Europe and the United States. Especially the hot Netgear Aircard 810s mobile hotspot, is the best seller for LTE advanced networks. Recently, Netgear provided a new 4G LTE mobile hotspot Aircard 800s for Australian network provider Optus and Optus named it as Optus WiFi modem 800s. If this article, we will review the difference between the two mobile hotspots and see which one is better.

Appearance and Interfaces

The Netgear AC810 has a 2.4 inch touchscreen on the front with two buttons for option: home and back. We have Aircard 810 in the version of Telstra WI-FI 4GX Advanced III.  But it’s already unlocked for global use. The Telstra Aircard 810 has the logo on the top side of the front. On the back, the Netgear logo is on the back cover, which could be removed to insert SIM card and battery. The Aircard 800s has similar features, on the front, there is a 2.4 inch touchscreen and Optus logo. Two buttons (home and back buttons) are available at the side of the screen. The Netgear logo is on the back cover, which could also be removed for changing SIM card or battery. And they both have two connectors for an external antenna. And the connector type is TS-9. They both use Micro SIM card to get WLAN network for internet access.

The Netgear Aircard 810s is available for Telstra in black color and Optus 4G WiFi modem is in white color.

Specifications and features

From the appearance, we can see the color difference, but can’t get other difference. It seems they are made by the same model. Let’s looks at the Specifications of Aircard 810s and 800s and see what the real difference is for buyers and users.

Conclusion

From table for the Aircard 810s specs and Aircard 800s specs, the Netgear 810s is more advanced with Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 chipset which can achieve download speed up to 600Mbps. Netgear Aircard 800s is also good to mention with Qualcomm MDM9240 chipset which could support download speed to 450mbps. They support same LTE frequency band B1, B3, B7, B28, but Aircard 810s supports band 8 while Aircard 800s supports band 40, which means the Aircard 810s can’t support TDD-LTE network. Other features of the two Netgear 4G mobile hotspots are same as described. Since the Netgear AC810S is more advanced, the price is a little bit higher than that of Aircard 800s. If you would buy a Netgear 4G Router between the two models, first, you need check whether the Aircard 810s or 800s would be compatible with your network provider’s network, and then you need to consider the price. The real performance of the two hotspots 4G has no much obvious difference.

Netgear Nighthawk M1 VS Netgear Aircard 810s

After the release of Netgear Aircard 810s, Netgear then presents the fastest mobile WiFi hotspot Nighthawk M1. The two mobile WLAN hotspots are well-known because they are with very fast LTE modems, which makes Netgear Wireless dominates the wireless gadgets equipment. Based on Qualcomm high-level chipset, the AirCard 810 Hotspot can achieve downlink up to 600 Mbit/s while the Nighthawk M1 can even reach up to 1 GBit/s in the downlink. The Nighthawk M1 also has the advanced features, but even the AirCard 810 hotspot has its advantages, as this comparison shows.

The Netgear AirCard 810 LTE Router has been available in many countries for a few years. When it’s first available in the market, it’s the fastest LTE hotspot (LTE Cat11, up to 600 Mbit/s). In our test, the AC810 proves its ability for wireless connection. The Netgear Nighthawk M1 is to be regarded as a direct successor to the AirCard 810 hotspot and has been officially available in the market since the second half of 2017. However, the concept of the AirCard series was only partially continued, and the Nighthawk open a new series for Netgear LTE advanced Pro gadgets.

Appearance and Interfaces

The design of the two Netgear LTE hotspots is very different. The AirCard 810 router is significantly smaller than the Nighthawk M1, but still comparatively large for a mobile LTE hotspot. The big touchscreen display on the front of the AC810 catches the eye. The Nighthawk M1 also has a very eye-catching display, but the round screen has no touch function. On the display, the AirCard 810 router seems has more advantages.

In terms of connections, the Nighthawk M1 mobile router is far ahead than Aircard 810. In addition to USB Type C for charging and connecting to the computer, the M1 offers a standard USB port for use as a power bank (charging other devices) as well as an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet LAN port. Both WLAN hotspots are equipped with two TS-9 connections, to which an external mobile radio antenna can be connected. The battery is changeable in both devices; the Nighthawk M1 has much stronger battery of 5040mAh, compared with the AC810 2930mAh battery capacity. In addition, the two mobile routers use SIM size in Micro SIM card.

LTE modem: Cat.11 VS Cat.16

On the datasheet, the Qualcomm LTE modem in the Netgear Nighthawk M1 is significantly more powerful than the AirCard 810 router. The Nighthawk M1 not only supports up to fourfold channel bundling (4CC CA), but also the 4 × 4 MIMO antenna technology. The AirCard 810 Router can handle a maximum of three carrier aggregation and 2 × 2 MIMO. The 256QAM modulation is available in both two routers.

In practice, the maximum speed was limited more by the mobile network than by the router, so there were hardly any differences between the two devices (tested with unlimited rates from Vodafone and Telekom). However, there were differences in “simple” LTE reception without channel bundling. Here, the Nighthawk M1 was often a little faster on the go. Even in the UMTS network, the Nighthawk M1 has usually made a little faster speed in the downlink than the AC810. By the way, GSM/2G cannot be handled in both hotspots.

WLAN Features

The Netgear Nighthawk M1 offers the slightly better wireless network performance compared to the AirCard 810 router and the slightly better gross data rates, as shown by the test with multiple devices. Both devices support WLAN at dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. There is a difference in the maximum number of devices simultaneously connected via WLAN: up to 20 simultaneous users are possible with the Nighthawk M1, only 15 with the AC810.

Both the Netgear AC810 and the Netgear Nighthawk M1 offer a so-called offload function, also known as “WLAN Extender”. As an alternative to the integrated mobile modem, the user can use an existing WLAN connection as Internet access. In the case of the Nighthawk M1, Internet access can alternatively also be established via the RJ45 LAN interface. The offload function is particularly interesting in hotels, at events or in the home and can help to save data volume on the mobile rate.

Operation and software

In terms of operation and configuration, the two Netgear LTE routers differ only minimally. Of course, the AirCard 810 hotspot offers the advantage of the touchscreen display, so some settings can be made conveniently directly on the router. With the Nighthawk M1, you either have to call up the web interface via a browser or use the Netgear Mobile App (available for Android and iOS). If you want to change the AC810 more than just basic things, you have to use the web interface or the app there as well.

The web interface offers a bit more features compared to the Netgear Nighthawk M1, but the AC810 is by no means badly positioned here. Both devices are easy and uncomplicated to use, the app is suitable for less technically savvy users, maybe even better for the operation than the web interface.

Conclusion

In direct comparison, the Nighthawk M1 is clearly the better router. The modem is better and provides for higher data rates than average, there is a RJ45 LAN connection and the battery has been improved significantly compared to the AirCard 810 again. The waiver of a touch screen is a pity, even though, it’s still given the high price of around 459.00USD. With WLAN, the Nighthawk M1 also offers advantages over the AC810, the range is slightly better and the data rates are higher in many situations.

Anyone who is prepared to pay the currently quite high price, clearly gets the better mobile hotspot Nighthawk M1. But the AirCard 810 router is still far from being old-fashioned: Compared to the Nighthawk M1, the 810s aircard offers a more compact and pocket-compatible size and can be operated via touchscreen. You do not have to know too much about the technology, the software is largely identical. For around 250USD, you will not get disappointed with the AC810.

Huawei E5186 VS Huawei B715 LTE-A Router

With the development of LTE networks, LTE Advanced is now becoming the mainstream. So the LTE-A WiFi Routers are more and more popular, which would provide faster speed than that on LTE category 3 or LTE category 4. Huawei E5186 is the world’s first LTE-A router and was very popular in 2016 and 2017. Now the new upgraded Huawei B715 router is available. In this article, we will compare Huawei E5186 and B715 router to see what the difference between the two routers is and which one is better.

Appearance and Interfaces

Since Huawei LTE CPE E5186 was popular in Europe and Australia in past two years, many people may know it well. Like many other Huawei stationary routers, there are few indicators on the front, such as Power, Mode, WiFi, Voice, Signal. And Huawei logo is in the middle front face. On the back, there are 4 LAN ports (one for LAN/WAN), two RJ11 Telephone port, and USB 2.0 port available. The power switch on/off button is also lined with the interfaces. Huawei Router B715 also has 4 LAN ports (One for LAN/WAN), but it has only one telephone port with the USB 2.0 port. They both use Micro SIM card size. The difference is that the SIM card of Huawei E5186 is located at the edge side while Huawei B715 router has the SIM card slot at the bottom. And they both have two SMA connectors for an external antenna. If you would buy 4G LTE Antenna with two SMA connectors, you can switch the internal antenna to external antenna in the web interface.

Huawei B525 VS B618 4G Router

For most unprofessional users, it would be a challenging thing to buy a Huawei WiFi router with Ethernet port. Especially, there are many Huawei LTE Routers available in the market, which would make the selection harder. Huawei B525 and Huawei B618 are two latest LTE advanced routers, somebody may be interested in the two routers. If you don’t know what’s the difference between the Huawei B618 and B525 router. In this article, you will find the answer. And if you want to buy Huawei B525 router or Huawei B618 router, you may get some reference.

Appearance

Huawei B525 WiFi router was available earlier than B618 LTE CPE, and it’s technically similar to its predecessor Huawei E5186 WiFi router. The shape of Huawei B525 is in the shape of traditional stationary wireless router, which could stand on the desktop, on the front, there are some LED indicators and there are 4 LAN ports on the back for Ethernet connection to PC or other terminals. Two connectors are available on the top back of the router for connecting external 4G/LTE antennas. One RJ11 port for phone and one USB 2.0 port for data sharing are available.

The Huawei 4G Router B618 is not like the common router, it’s in a shape of cube. However, the LED indicators and the Ethernet ports are still available but with different quantity. Huawei B618 Router has two LAN ports(One for LAN & WAN). The RJ11 port for telephone and USB 2.0 port are still available. The difference is that the Huawei B525 has two antenna connectors in the type of SMA while B618 LTE CPE has two TS-9 connectors, which is usually available for a Huawei LTE USB modem. What’s more, the two routers both use Micro SIM card and the SIM card slots are located at the bottom of the two routers.

Conclusion

From the specs, we can see the Huawei B618 4G Router is more advanced for high-level LTE network. With more advanced technologies, Huawei B618 could support faster download speed and upload speed, which is almost double of that of Huawei B525. The Huawei B525 has more Ethernet port for connection. But the Huawei B618 and B525 both could support maximum up to 64 wireless users, which would be enough for most cases. Currently, most of the devices would connect via WiFi rather than Ethernet port. If you prefer to have more Ethernet ports, Huawei B525 may be good. Frankly speaking, Huawei B525 is good enough for our daily life internet demand at home for a family or in office for small group.

As a top and latest new LTE router, Huawei B618 is a future-proof home router. At least, before 5G router comes out, you will never worry about it’s out of date. However, the advanced feature makes it not in cheap price. If you want a budget router, Huawei B525 would be better.
