Huawei E5785 LTE Mobile Hotspot Test

Huawei has launched the new E5785 LTE hotspot on the market. With not-high price, it still offers good facilities. The Huawei E5785 has an LTE Cat6 modem for speeds up to 300 Mbps in the downlink and presents information about the device and the Internet connection via a small display on the front. There is dual-band Wi-Fi and the battery should allow about 10 hours of operation. Today, we would take a test on this new LTE hotspot.

Appearance

Huawei presented the E5785 as a successor to hotspots like the Huawei E5377 or the Huawei E5577. Visually, the E5785 differs little from the aforementioned predecessors, technically LTE Advanced Cat6 but now arrived in the middle class. With the battery, a quick-start manual and an extremely short micro-USB cable are packed with the E5785 device. To charge, you have to choose an existing USB power adapter or any USB port on your PC or laptop.

The first impression of Huawei E5785 is good. For the test, the white version of the E5785 was available, but there is also a variant with black color to buy. The device is small and light and has two buttons: a power button on the front and a menu button on the side. The battery is replaceable; under the battery is the slot for the MicroSIM card. Good to know: Even NanoSIM cards with adapters work well when used with care. On the front there is a small rectangular display, which is easy to read and clearly displays important information.

Technical specifications

The Huawei E5785 offers the following specifications. Importantly: the exact model number E5785Lh-22c would work without any trouble in Europe. If you buy a device with a different model number, other frequency ranges may be supported.

Configuration and software

Confirguration is simple and easy. After power on the device, you have to connect via WLAN with the Huawei E5785, then you can enter the SIM pin and set up by Huawei HiLink App (available for Android and iOS) or via the browser web interface (IP: 192.168.8.1). An assistant leads through the most important settings, so that even less experienced users should be able to cope quickly. The used provider is recognized automatically via the SIM card, and normally the APN does not have to be entered.

Further settings can be made in the web interface, for example, roaming for the use of the device abroad can be activated or the mobile network technology can be selected manually. You can store a data plan in the statistics menu and it is possible to send and receive text messages.

Huawei E5785: modem in the test

The modem of the Huawei E5785 left an ambiguous impression in the test. If the reception was good, the LTE hotspot delivered excellent data rates – in an LTE 800 cell (Volume 20) almost 70 MBit/s in the downlink and around 25 MBit/s in the uplink were possible. However, the reception was not always satisfactory overall and with poor reception, the modem also provided comparatively bad values: a Netgear Nighthawk M1 provides almost double times fast while a Huawei B618 LTE router even three times as fast. The mobile hotspot showed no weaknesses over UMTS, in this case the speeds were often even higher than the comparison devices.

To achieve the maximum possible speed, Huawei E5785 bundles different channels in the same or in different frequency ranges (see table above, “CA combinations”). In the test, the maximum data rate was about 200 MBit/s – significantly more will probably reach only very rarely, because the LTE networks of the providers are now often well utilized.

If required, an external LTE MIMO antenna can be connected to the Huawei E5785. For this purpose, two TS-9 connectors are available under a cover at the side. In the test, the use of a 40dBi LTE MIMO antenna with two TS-9 pigtails worked flawlessly.

WLAN with extender function

The WLAN of the Huawei E5785 operates either in the frequency range around 2.4 GHz or in the range around 5 GHz. The 802.11a/b/g/n/ac standards are supported with 2 × 2 MIMO antenna technology. Over 2.4 GHz are possible up to 300 MBit/s, on 5 GHz up to 867 MBit/s. In the test, the maximum connection speed was reached with an Apple MacBook Pro even at about 4m distance (line of sight), but as soon as objects or even a wall between hotspot and terminal are, the speed drops significantly. Overall, the range was neat, not better or worse than other mobile Wi-Fi hotspots. What was conspicuous: when using 5 GHz WLAN, the Huawei E5785 always needed about a minute after power-up to perform the DFS scan. During this time the WLAN connection was not usable.

Huawei has again integrated the WLAN Extender function on the E5785, as with many previous models. The function allows using an existing WLAN connection as Internet access, as soon as it is within reach. This saves data volume at the data tariff. The WLAN Extender must be configured once via the web interface or the Huawei HiLink App, but can then be switched on and off on the device itself via the menu and the power button. In the test it was noticeable that the speed was limited to about 15 MBit/s when using the WLAN Extender function. However, this is not only the case with the E5785, the sister model Huawei E5885 also had this restriction.

Battery and others

The battery of the Huawei E5785 is to allow about 10 hours of operation according to the manufacturer. In the test this was approximately achieved, with the operating time varies slightly depending on the application scenario. If you use the LTE hotspot in a train or in a car, where cell changes often have to be carried out, the battery life is slightly lower than for stationary use. The number of connected WLAN devices also has an impact on the runtime.

The Huawei E5785 does not have a MicroSD memory card slot. The site has a micro-USB port for charging and connecting to the computer. Even if no device is connected via WLAN and the Internet connection is exclusively used via USB: you can not completely switch off the WLAN.

Conclusion

Overall, the Huawei E5785 left a good impression in the test. The battery life is good, the setup was fast and the operation is very easy. Wi-Fi and modem worked perfectly in the test, the LTE speeds with weak reception but could be improved.

The Huawei E5785 has to fend off competition, especially from its own home: the LTE hotspots Huawei E5577C and Huawei E5377 are a bit slower and have a shorter battery life. A slightly more expensive alternative is the Huawei E5787 with a large touch screen and the Huawei E5885 with LAN connection on. Recently, Huawei released a new Gigabit LTE hotspot Huawei E5788, we suppose the price of Huawei E5785 would drop soon after the new model available on the market.

Huawei E5885 Mobile WiFi Pro2 Test

As a successor of the popular Huawei E5770 LTE hotspot, the Huawei E5885 Mobile WiFi Pro2 is now presented to market. The Huawei E5885 comes with a fast LTE Cat6 modem for speeds up to 300 Mbps in the downlink and up to 50 Mbps in the uplink. Compared to its predecessor, the battery has been increased again, it now offers a capacity of 6,400 mAh. Compared to other mobile hotspots, the integrated RJ45 Ethernet port is certainly the most important unique selling proposition. This review will highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the Huawei E5885 Mobile WiFi Pro2 for and pinpoint whether it is worth buying.

Before we take a close look at the technical data, we can see the model of the device: black Huawei E5885Ls-93a (this is the exact model name for the European version). Connected to the hotspot is a small hand strap, which is also a USB to micro USB cable. Furthermore, it comes with a power supply with an output of 5V/2A and the corresponding USB to Micro-USB cable to charge the device.

In addition, Huawei E5885 comes with a small adapter from Micro-USB to USB Type C, so that even modern smartphones can easily charge with the power bank function of the Huawei E5885. Finally, you will find in the packaging a printed warranty notice and a multilingual quick start guide.

Huawei E5885: technology

In my test, I used the Huawei E5885 in black color, the material on the front and on the back is reminiscent of synthetic leather and feels quite high quality. The back of the Huawei E5885 can be removed for insertion of the SIM card and optionally a MicroSD memory card. You need a MicroSIM card, but if you use it carefully, you can also use Nano-SIM cards with an adapter on MicroSIM.

Software in the test: Firmware version: 21.236.05.00.1217
Others: Monochrome display | NFC | Battery 6,400 mAh, Powerbank function |MicroUSB and full-size USB port

The battery is not changeable. On the back are important information about the device, including the WLAN name and various passwords. All ports are hidden under a cover on the side of the Huawei E5885. There you will find a micro-USB port for charging the device, a full-size USB port for using the Powerbank function and a RJ45 Ethernet LAN connection.

On the front there is a small monochrome display, which shows the most important information about the Internet connection and the device itself, such as the signal strength, the battery level and the number of connected WLAN devices. If you press the power button, which is located on the side of the E5885, you can display the WLAN password in plain text. There is also a WPS button on the side of the hotspot and an NFC antenna on the front for easy Wi-Fi connection without the hassle of entering the password.

Compared to other mobile LTE hotspots like the Huawei E5787 or the Netgear AirCard 810, the Huawei E5885’s display is very small. In addition, the information displayed is often difficult to read due to strong reflections of the cover.

The configuration of the Huawei Mobile WiFi Pro2 E5885 must be done either via the browser Web Interface or the Huawei HiLink App, which is available for iOS and Android. Both the smartphone app and the web interface are easy to use and available in various languages. Much more detailed setting options are available via the web interface clearly, but the app is completely sufficient for everyday use; the most important functions such as SMS, memory card access or configuration of the WLAN extender are also available via the app.

Huawei E5885: Details about the WLAN

The maximum of 32 devices can be supplied with an internet connection at the same time. Both the frequency range around 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz is supported, the maximum speed on my Apple MacBook Pro was just below 600 Mbit/s. That’s enough to use the maximum modem speed of theoretically 300 MBit/s on the laptop. Of course, the WLAN range depends on various factors, in my test I was able to receive the WLAN signal in the 2.4 GHz band but also over 10m distance and through two walls and surf the Internet fluently. For some users certainly a negative point: there is no way to completely disable the WLAN. Even if only USB or LAN is used for Internet access, the WLAN is active.

Huawei E5885: wireless extender

The WLAN Extender feature has become very important to many users. This feature allows you to use an existing Wi-Fi network as Internet access. This can save data volume on the SIM card. Fortunately, the Huawei E5885 also has a WLAN extender function, which tested perfectly and was very easy to set up. The maximum number of possible WLAN devices is reduced to 31 when using the Extender function. It was noticeable that the speed was limited to about 15 megabits per second – even if the original wireless has made much higher speeds possible. For daily use, the speed of 15 Mbit/s is probably sufficient for most of the users.

Huawei E5885: No Gigabit Ethernet

The RJ45 Ethernet LAN port on the Huawei E5885 side can be used to provide Internet access to a wired device such as a desktop PC. In the test, this worked fine. There is also the option of using the LAN port as an Internet access instead of the cellular modem. This also worked perfectly smoothly in the test, the LAN connection was recognized immediately and the Internet access was established. Unfortunately, the RJ45 Ethernet port supports only 100Mbps connections – Gigabit LAN is not supported. This is annoying, because thus the full modem speed over LAN is not usable.

Huawei E5885: LTE Speedtest

In the test, Huawei Mobile WiFi Pro2 E5885 used SIM card from Vodafone. The reception was quite good at LTE band 3 and 20. Positive: even in regions with a very weak LTE signal, you could still surf fluently, even if downloads lasted much longer. Compared to a Netgear AirCard 810 hotspot, it was noticeable that the uplink speeds were often slightly slower than those of the competing device – but all in all, the data rates of the E5885 were good.

Theoretically, the modem allows speeds of up to 300 MBit/s in the downlink and 50 MBit/s in the uplink via LTE, in the test at least about 200/45 Mbit/s were measurable. In most cases, the speed is well below the maximum possible, since the LTE radio cells are now well utilized. Of course, the Huawei E5885 also supports 3G and 2G as a backup and if desired, you can also specify the network technology in the web interface manually (4G only, 3G only, etc.).

Unfortunately, the Huawei E5885 has no external antenna connections, which is quite unusual, because most other mobile hotspots have these connections. If you want to use the Huawei E5885 abroad, you should pay attention to the supported frequency bands. The Huawei E5885Ls-93a (European version) is perfectly suited for use in Europe, partly also in North America and Asia is possible. For non-European travel, however, it is best to first clarify which frequency bands are relevant in the destination country.

Huawei E5885: battery and power bank function

The battery of the Huawei E5885 has a capacity of 6,400 mAh. That should be the largest battery of a mobile LTE hotspot currently. In my review, I was able to achieve a useful life of about 20 hours with continuous use of the hotspot feature. Of course, it takes a long time to charge the battery – the device had to charge about 5 hours with the included 5V / 2A power supply. The Power Bank function to charge other devices worked perfectly in the test. Pleasing is the high output power of 5V/2A, so that current smartphones can be charged quite quickly.

Huawei E5885: test conclusion

After about two weeks of testing, I can recommend the Huawei E5885 to anyone looking for a hotspot with a fast LTE modem, a strong battery, and an Ethernet LAN port. The device worked perfectly in the test and provided a stable and fast internet connection at all times. Another positive feature was the fast and easy-to-use web interface and the WLAN Extender function. The powerbank function is also helpful and is very well complemented by the included accessories.

However, the Huawei Mobile Wi-Fi Pro2 E5885 hotspot also has weak points, as the test has shown. There are no connections for an external LTE antenna and even when using the Ethernet connection there is no possibility to completely switch off the WLAN module. With the 100 MBit/s connections, it is incomprehensible why Huawei has not installed a Gigabit Ethernet connection, only about one third of the maximum LTE modem speed can be used over LAN. Even the very small display is quite a weak point.

Despite the mentioned weaknesses, the Huawei E5885 is a very good device, the bottom line is the price-performance ratio. Of course, there are alternatives: if you do not need a LTE Cat6 or 5 GHz WLAN, you can confidently use the predecessor Huawei E5770.

Difference between Netgear Aircard 810s/790s and Huawei E5787

As Huawei’s first 4G mobile hotspot with touch screen, Huawei E5787 had attracts customers’ eyes when it’s presented to public. Now the Huawei E5787 had already been available for many network providers in Middle East areas. However, if you had used Netgear 4G Aircards such as Netgear Aircards 790s or 810s, you may the touch screen feature on a LTE mobile hotspot is not a new feature.

On the screen point, Huawei is following the Netgear’s steps. With the touch screen and easy operation, Netgear Aircard 4G hotspots had gained good reputation from many customers. Here comes the questions: what’s the difference between Huawei E5787 and Netgear 4G Aircard(790s & 810s)? In this article, we will have a look at the difference between them.

Appearance

The three 4G mobile hotspots are all in rectangle shape and have a 2.4 inch touch screen on the middle of the front. As we mentioned before, user can operate the device throigh the touch screen. Users can do simple setup without having to log in the web management page. This is also the selling point for them.

The Netgear 810s and 790s have a “home” and “back” button at the right side of the screen while the Huawei E5787 doesn’t have such button. They all have two connectors for external LTE antenna, which is important if the device is used at places with weak signal. The connector type is TS-9. The external LTE antenna can improve the network speed.

Technical Specifications

Huawei E5787 uses Huawei own Hisilicon LTE cat.6 chipset. The Netgear Aircards 790s and 810s both use Qualcomm LTE chipset like the predecessors, but they use different chipset model, Aircard 790s is based on Qualcomm MDM9230 and Aircard 810s is on Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 LTE modem.

With LTE cat.6 chipset platform, Huawei E5787 and Netgear 790s are same level products; both could support peak download speed up to 300Mbps and upload speed to 50Mbps on LTE network. Netgear aircard 810s is on a higher level to LTE cat11 and supporting downlink to 600Mbps, which is almost double of the speed from the E5787 and 790s. And aircard 810s is more advanced with support of 3 band carrier aggregation(CA) while the other two only support dual-band CA.

Perhaps Netgear 810s is targeted on top terminals, the 2G GSM network is not supported and only 3G UMTS/DC-HSPA+ is backward compatible. Both Netgear 790s and Huawei E5787 can switch to 3G UMTS/DC-HSPA+ or 2G GSM/GPRS network when LTE network is not available. Regarding the supported 4G LTE/3G/2G network frequency bands, it depends on the specific model.

The Aircard 810s and Huawei E5787 both support latest WLAN standards ac, but Aircard 790s missed the ac. But they are all with 2 x 2 MIMO technology. The Netgear Aircard 790s and 810S could both support up to 15 wireless devices to access internet while Huawei E5787 only support 10 users.

Battery and SIM card

Unlike Huawei E5786, the Netgear Aircard 790s & 810s and Huawei E5787 are with removable battery. The Netgear 790s and 810s both have the battery of same capacity to 2930mAh; Huawei E5787 has larger battery to 3000mAh. The two Netgear Aircards has the SIM slot for Micro SIM while the Huawei E5787 uses Mini SIM.

Regarding the performance of the network connection, we will do the test later and show full report accordingly.

Availability of the Huawei E5785

So far, the Huawei E5785 LTE Cat6 Hotspot seems to be available in Europe only in Poland, with the providers Play and T-Mobile. The exact model number for the Polish market is E5785Lh-22c; the Huawei E5785 is also easily usable in other European countries due to the support for LTE 800, 1800 and 2600 MHz (band 20, 3, 7). However, you should be careful with other E5785 model numbers in Asia and the Middle East, which may support other frequency ranges. We will update more information about the Huawei E5785 later.

Huawei E5787 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot

A new router successor to Huawei MiFi E5786 Hotspot has appeared on the market in early summer last summer, it is the Huawei E5787, also named Huawei E5787 Mobile WiFi Touch.

Huawei E5787

The Huawei E5787 Mobile WiFi Touch is a 4G+ category 6 router, allowing a download speed of 300 Mbps and a download speed of 50 Mbps. Always broadcasting WiFi 802.11ac, it broadcasts on the 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz frequencies. It is of course backwards compatible with 2G and 3G and supports 802.11 b/g/n in addition to ac.

huawei-e5787-e5787s-33a-mobile-wifi-touch-1

There are 2 main novelties for this E5787 compared to its predecessor Huawei E5786.

  1. A large 2.4-inch screen is now in front, but most importantly, it is tactile and gives access to operating and configuration menus. This functionality gives it the nickname of WiFi touch. The screen of Huawei E5786 can only show the connection status and data consumption, if users want to operate the setting for WIFI and password, they have to log in the web page to setup.

  1. Unlike the E5786, the battery of Huawei E5787 is removable. This 3000mAh battery gives 12 hours of autonomy to this router. The battery of E5786 can’t be removed.

For the rest of the characteristics, we can find more features as below:

1. Capacity of 10 simultaneous Wifi users.

2. Possibility to connect a PC via the micro-USB port.

3. The two TS-9 connectors for an external antenna.
4.
With nano HPM Cortex A9 processor, it supported 4G bands are:

* LTE FDD: 1/3/5/7/8/20 (800/850/900/1800/2100/2600MHz)
Note: It still lacks the 700 MHz (B28).
* LTE TDD: 38/40/41 (2300/2500/2600MHz)
5. Dimensions of 109 x 58 x 7.5mm, therefore significantly thinner than its predecessor E5786. And the weight of 155g, it’s easy to take away when on the go.
6. One micro SD card slot, connected users could share files in the SD card plugged in.

Huawei E5377 4G Mobile Hotspot Test

Mobile routers are now very fashionable. It is true that we can connect to the network using smartphones and tablets, however, there are still many users who having computers would like to use mobile routers to connect to the Internet. Since many users expect more from the mobile routers, the manufacturers of mobile routers supplied new models with new functions. Huawei E5377 4G hotspot is one of them.

huawei-e5377-3

The Huawei E5377 router is a real pocket router. The manufacturer has equipped it a LED display, and next to LED display on the right side is a big switch. The top edge of the body is the menu button, while at the bottom microUSB slot and two antenna connectors covered flap are placed. Remove the rear cover, plug in a valid SIM card and insert the battery. Then we can get connected with internet.

huawei-e5377-4

The Huawei E5377 hotspot is very light and fits comfortably in your hand. The body has a special groove that facilitates its opening. The whole is well matched; there are no gaps, no creaks. The white color looks elegant, but I have a feeling that quickly loses its charm after a few trips in your pocket. Unfortunately, the white body gets dirty easily turning to gray. Especially since the material used is rough, making it easier to absorb dust and pollen. I personally like the black color, which is also recommended by Huawei.

huawei-e5377-6

As can be seen, Huawei E5377 router can handle both 3G and LTE. The difference between these technologies laid primarily in the transfer data rates. In the case of LTE, the speed can be several times higher than in the 3G (LTE, currently can achieve up to 55 ~ 85Mbps), the theoretical standard specification provides for even more than double the download speed to 150Mbps. The E5377 router can install a memory card of up to 32GB. This way we can use it, for example. As a memory stick, the contents of which we can share with other users. And maximum of 10 users could get connected with the E5377 hotspot through WiFi. The equipped battery in E5377 already wrote. The manufacturer says that it is sufficient for 6 hours operation. Reading the rest of the text, you will find out how the E5377 performs.

huawei-e5377-7

Let’s see the user interface. The Huawei E5377 router can be setup in two ways: through the menu and the power buttons on the wireless router, or through the Web browser. The latter method (or browser) is definitely easier to use while offering more options, which is recommended. Just run the router, enter the password for the network (the default SSID is HUAWEI-E5377-XXX) that are on the label under the battery, enter the address into your browser: 192.168.8.1 … and that’s it. You can also download the Huawei Mobile WiFi APP for Android or iOS to setup the Huawei E5377 Router.

huawei-e5377-8

The interface is very easy to use, although I admit that it could work a little faster. Some pages refresh slowly, but enough to do common settings. The application is very simple, and consists of a main menu in the upper part of the window, pop-up menu on the left and the main window where you set the individual parameters. The launch window is equipped with three large buttons, which can enable or disable the router, stop cellular data transmission, and enable/disable WiFi. At any time by selecting Statistics, you can check the amount of data sent and received, check out who is connected to the network, etc. Prepared menu also allows you to send and read SMS messages.

huawei-e5377-1

The most important item on the menu are the Settings. This is where you configure network access, sharing WiFi, Ethernet settings (one can use the USB – LAN), etc.. The manufacturer has not forgotten the safety at different levels, we can verify your MAC Address, IP, etc. There are of course several custom functions such as the ability to prioritize users, the ability to define a virtual server. We also have a NAT, UPnP, DMZ … if you think this is not enough, but we need not everything if we use the router as a temporary Internet source during a weekend trip out of town. Actually, I would like to recommend use the main stationary router access to the network at home rather huawei E5377.

LTE Advanced with 300 MBit/s

The Huawei E5787 Hotspot is manufactured by the Chinese manufacturer Huawei and it provides a current LTE-Advanced CAT6 modem for up to 300 Mbit/s downstream and up to 50 Mbit/s upstream. It’s the second LTE cat6 mobile router from Huawei. The modem is manufactured by HiSilicon and also comes with the predecessor model Huawei E5786. Although the Netgear AirCard 810 is already a faster LTE hotspot, the Huawei E5787 is one of the fastest mobile LTE routers on the market.

Most other devices provide only up to 150 Mbit/s in download (LTE CAT4). Of course the E5787 4G hotspot is also backward compatible with older wireless technologies GSM and UMTS (3G and 2G). In the UMTS network, up to 42.2 Mbit/s download via DC-HSPA+ is possible with GSM Data Accelerator EDGE is supported. Regarding the supporting frequency bands, we suppose the version for Europe FDD-LTE networks would be first available, ie. Supporting LTE band 1/3/7/8/20(800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz).

Easy operation with touch screen

Unlike its Huawei E5 predecessors, Huawei upgraded the screen on the Huawei E5787 because it has a large touchscreen display. So it’s also called Huawei E5787 Mobile WiFi Touch. Thus, the hotspot can quickly and easily use, which you already know and experience it from your smartphones ago. The key features like data consumption, connection time and receive status are displayed directly on the home screen. More detailed information you get on the menu that is graphically appealing. This feature was already available on Netgear Aircard 790s and 810s for long time. On this point, Huawei follows Netgear’s steps, but it should be the mainstream for high-level gadgets now.

WLAN AC and Replaceable Battery

Compared to its predecessor Huawei E5786, Huawei E5787 has a removable battery. This has a capacity of 3000 mAh and will provide an operation time of approximately 12 hours. If there are many devices simultaneously connected, the capacity will probably be more likely to be slightly lower. The integrated WLAN radio module distributes the Internet connection of various devices such as laptops, smartphones and Tablets. On request, internet access via USB is possible and due MicroUSB cable is included and is also used to charge the battery. The wireless radios on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, and supports the latest standard 802.11ac, so that the high-speed LTE also arrives at the terminals.

What’s the Difference between Huawei E5787 and E5786?

A few weeks ago, Huawei’s first 4G mobile hotspot with touch screen is available in Saudi Arabia. The name is Huawei Mobile WiFi Touch, and model number is E5787, which is the second LTE Cat6 mobile pocket router from Huawei. If you are familiar with Huawei E5 mobile WiFi, you may know the first LTE Cat6 hotspot is E5876.Here comes a question: what’s the difference between Huawei E5786 and E5787? Today, we will have a talk about this.

 Huawei-E5786 VS Huawei E5787

Appearance

The body of E5787 and E5786 looks similar, but it’s no doubt that the touch screen of Huawei E5787 is a big selling point. In the predecessors of Huawei E5 series mobile WiFi, there is not a mobile router which has a 2.4inch touch acreen like E5787. The E5786 has a small screen only to show the connection status. But the E5787 can be operated through the 2.4 inch touchscreen. And the E5787 feels better and much slimmer than E5786 due to the thinner body.

Chipset

Both the Huawei E5787 and E5786 are based on the Huawei Hisilicon chipset, but Huawei E5787 is using the latest one, which is a powerful 28 nm HPM Coretx A9 processor. The chipset could support the screen and LTE-advanced network very well.

Technical specifications

Both the Huawei E5786 and E5787 are based on the LTE-Advanced technology on LTE Category 6, they can achieve peak download speed up to 300Mbit/s and upload speed to 50Mbit/s on the perfect networking. In practice, user may not get the speed due to weak signal or internet congestion etc…

Multiple WiFi terminals could get connected with E5786 and E5787 through WiFi, the maximum connected users could be 10 units. The WiFi is working on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, which is great for most situations.

HUAWEI E5786 Speed

Here now there are three variants for Huawei E5786, including E5786s-32a, E5786s-62a, E5786s-63a. They support different combination of LTE frequency bands for different network providers in areas. Here now the Huawei E5787 has only the sub-model E5787s-33a. But we believe there will be more variants available in many markets such as Europe and Asia.

Color

There are only two colors for Huawei E5786: black and white. But there Huawei E5787 provides more options: there is gold color except that black and white.

Battery

The battery of Huawei E5786 MiFi is built-in, which means users cannot remove to change a new one, but the battery of E5787 MiFi is removable and changeable. The battery capacity of Huawei E5787 is 3000mAh, and it could support the device keep working for 12 hours per the official sayings even with the touch screen. To make the E5787 work longer time, a new chipset is inserted to reduce the consumption of power and extend the working time. The Huawei E5786 also has a battery of 3000mAh, and the working time is around 10 hours. But the thickness of Huawei E5787 is only half of that of E5786.

Operation

Both the Huawei E5787 and E5786 can be operated via the web interface. And user can also download the Huawei Mobile WiFi app to manage them. But Huawei E5787 has a touch screen, so user can also setup or configure the settings via the touch screen.

Summary

Huawei E5787 and E5786 are very similar in the technical features, but Huawei E5787 seems more attractive due to the touch screen, which is more user-friendly to do the settings. They are both very good 4G pocket WiFi to recommend for latest network.

Huawei E5787 Mobile WiFi Touch Available

A few weeks ago, a new mobile LTE router from Huawei is available, the model name is Huawei E5787 Mobile WiFi Touch, which is the direct successor of the popular Huawei E5786 from the year 2014 and it’s the first Huawei hotspot with touchscreen operation. The E5787 Mobile WiFi Router provides LTE Cat6 with speeds of up to 300 Mbit/s in the downlink and up to 50 Mbit/s in the uplink. Unfortunately, the Huawei E5787 has been only available in Saudi Arabia now, but we suppose it would be available in other areas.

LTE Cat6 and touchscreen

Technically, there is no big surprise in the Huawei E5787. The modem comes from Huawei subsidiary HiSilicon and supports LTE Category 6 with up to 300 MBit/s in the downlink and up to 50 Mbit/s in the uplink. The strong battery is 3,000 mAh and makes Huawei E5787 for an operating time of up to 12 hours. At the side of the unit, there is a USB port for charging the E5787 and for use to work as a wired modem. In addition, there are two connections for an external LTE antenna. The WiFi connection to devices such as laptops or tablets is via Dual Band WLAN ac (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz).

Huawei E5787

The operation of Huawei E5787 is carried out via a touchscreen for the first time at a Huawei Hotspot. The display is 2.4 inches in size and occupies a large part of the front. The software seems to run fast and fluent. Basically, the mobile LTE hotspot with touchscreen is nothing new, Netgear has offered some devices with touchscreen in the models AirCard 790 and AirCard 810.

Huawei E5787 versus E5786

As the predecessor of the Huawei E5787, Huawei E5786 is still the best available model from Huawei. Although Huawei E5786 MiFi now is already more than 2 years old (our test from the year 2014), it has almost the same features as the E5787 technically; the biggest difference is actually the touchscreen. In the LTE speed and the WLAN, both devices are identical.

Some improvements can be found at E5787 in detail: the battery is now removable and it can use not only normal Micro SIM cards with appropriate adapter but also nano SIM cards. Also, the Cortex A9 used processor is faster. Presumably, the new processor is necessary primarily due to the power-hungry displays and the more complex operating system. Overall, the Huawei E5787 MiFi is certainly the better choice comparely, but the huawei E5786 is still a very good hotspot.

Huawei E5878 E5878s-33a (5)

The Huawei E5787 is initially available only in Saudi Arabia. It’s offered 3 colors: silver, gold and black. They provide more options for user’s color preference. We believe the Huawei E5787 would be also a global model and it would be available for other network providers in Europe and Aisa.
