Huawei Ascend P2 4G LTE Cat4 Smartphone

There are very few 4G Smartphones available now to support LTE Category 4 with 150 Mbit/s download speed. The Huawei Ascend P2 is one of them; it was presented in February 2013 during the Mobile World Congress. We have tested the new Smartphone in the networks of Telekom and Vodafone. Particular attention was paid to the ability in the LTE networks and the high speed data rates.

First impression and technical data
The Huawei Ascend P2 is available with black or white back. The front of the display is black for both models and both rounded upward as well as downward, which leaves a good impression. The size is 0.8 x 6.7 x 13.6 cm with a weight of approximately 122g, which is just acceptable; one hand operation is a little bit difficult.

The screen is 4.7 inches in diagonal size and display with 1280 × 720 pixels. This means the Huawei Ascend P2 doesn’t have the highest pixel density, but still offers an exceptionally good picture: it is very bright, the colors are realistic and the viewing angles are excellent. The operating system used Android not-so-current version 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.  Huawei has installed his “Emotion UI” surface, which should be a real simplification for most users. User can install the APPs to the smartphone. Based on the good solution design, the software is extremely fast, apps open almost instantly. Huawei P2 is not keeping up with current flagship Smartphones and not has the much more powerful hardware.  Huawei Ascend P2 is based on a HiSilicon K3V2 quad-core processor with 1.5 GHz clock rate, which are 1 gigabyte of memory.

Modem and Wireless
In Huawei Ascend P2 Smartphone there is built-in LTE modem that also used in various modems from Huawei, for example, the Huawei E3276 or the Huawei E5372. It allows speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s for the downlink and up to 50 Mbit/s for the uplink, i.e. LTE Category 4. In the test, the maximum speed was around 120 Mbit/s with network of Deutsche Telekom, when working with Vodafone, nearly 80 Mbit/s download speed can be achieved. In addition to LTE network supported, 3G UMTS network is also supported, but only 21.6Mbps download speed could be reached. Almost all other manufacturers now offer DC-HSPA+, up to 42.2 Mbit/s could be achieved. Huawei also offers DC-HSPA+ for many years in various modems, but why here DC-HSPA+ was saved at Ascend P2, remains a mystery. The same is also for the WLAN module: this only supports the 2.4 GHz frequency band, which is absolutely not up to date for a high-end Smartphone.

The received power is overall quite good, compared to other Smartphones but not significantly better.  Which is worth mentioning is definitely the manual network search: in contrast to most other Android Smartphones, Huawei Ascend P2 displays networks as separated by wireless technology (2G, 3G, 4G), which is a nice thing, in particular for mobile enthusiasts. You can manually switch between the 2G, 3G & 4G networks.

Miscellaneous and Conclusion
The internal memory is 16 gigabytes, which is not particularly large, especially when it is not expandable via memory card. So you have to often transfer the photos in the 4G Smartphone to a computer to get back free space. The 13-megapixel camera takes pretty good photos and also also beautiful full-HD videos. The battery offers 2,420 mAh, which is comparatively good capacity and thus a solid runtime. Not connected with LTE, the Huawei P2 can get so loose over an entire working day. All in all, the Huawei Ascend P2 is a beautiful smartphone that worth to buy based on all his good display and fast software.

Netgear Aircard 762s (AC762S) Mobile LTE Hotspot Available in Germany

After the network specialist Netgear has recently acquired the well-known manufacturer Sierra Wireless for UMTS and LTE modems, the first mobile LTE router from Netgear comes to Germany now. The new model number is Netgear Aircard 762S, usually in short name AC762S. The MiFi hotspot AC762S still follows the typical design of the hotspot line of Sierra Wireless, now it’s available in Northern Europe. The technical data are not quite up to date, only LTE Category 3 is supported, while some LTE Category 4 devices are already offered, such as the Huawei E5776 Huawei E5372.

Good equipment

The Netgear AC762S LTE router can supply maximum of 10 wireless devices to the Internet via Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4 GHz Band. Whether an Internet connection via microUSB connector is possible, it must face a test, in any case, you can recharge the battery via the USB Interface, which would allow operation time for up to 6 hours after one charge. If the AC762s connects the computer via USB cable continuously, the Netgear 762S would keep working without any interruption. The exact capacity of the battery is 2000mAh, and the battery is removable. The operation is just like a WiFi router usually managed via a web interface in the browser, but alternatively, Netgear also offers an app for smartphones and tablets to manage the 4G hotspot . The display on the front displays important information such as the data consumption, connection speed or network technology.

Under the LTE network, the speeds of up to 100 megabits per second for the downlink and up to 50 Mbit/s for the uplink are possible. The supported LTE frequency bands allow operation in every network in Germany and in most European networks: LTE800, LTE1800, LTE2100 and LTE2600 are available. The LTE Category 4 with up to 150 MBit/s is already offered by the operator Telekom and Vodafone since the summer of 2013; however, you cannot make it come true on Netgear AC762S. In the UMTS network, the frequency bands around 900 and 2100 megahertz are available; unfortunately this feature makes it impossible to use worldwide, since important bands for the Americas missing.

The maximum speed over UMTS is 42.2 Mbit/s for the downlink and 5.76 Mbit/s for the uplink, when the Aircard 762s works on the 3G network based on DC-HSPA+. If the reception at your own location is too weak, you can connect one or two external LTE or UMTS antenna with the Netgear AC762S over the two TS-9 connectors.

The LTE mobile hotspot Netgear AC762S is now available in various online stores such as 4gltemall.com .You can find a good comparison with other mobile hotspots on our site. Actually, there is a brother model Netgear Aircard 760s which was available in few months ago. It’s already known and used by many customers. The Aircard 760s is for Australia operator Telstra. They look the same from the appearance, other features are almost the same except that the frequency bands on 3G and 4G LTE. If you want to use the mobile hotspot in America or Australia, Netgear 760s would be a good option for you.

Huawei E5372 4G Mobile LTE Cat4 Router On Hand

We have the 4G mobile wireless router Huawei E5372 tested on the road which provides your devices with fast LTE network. It’s also called Mobile Wi-Fi Router, and now established itself as the practical devices for 4G Internet access. Compared to simple “tethering” via smartphone, the advantages of the 4G MiFi Router are obvious: MiFi routers usually have a good reception, good wireless transmit power and a durable battery.

Now the Huawei E5372 mobile LTE hotspot comes on the market, and it offers speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s for the downlink and 50 Mbit/s for the uplink, depending on fare and network expansion. Through the support of Wi-Fi in the 5 GHz range, the Huawei E5372 is also suitable for trade fairs and other places where the operation of a 2.4GHz Wireless LAN is not availalbe.

Thanks to a weight of only 130 grams including the battery and dimensions of 99 mm x 62 mm x 14 mm, the Huawei E5372 is very handy and can be easily taken in pocket or backpack. The device is available in either black or white. On the front you will find a small, well-read, monochrome display that shows current information such as the reception, the network technology, the battery status and the number of connected Wi-Fi devices.

At the side of LTE mobile router, there is a micro USB cable interface for charging the battery and connects to the computer. A separate power supply is not included. The battery has a capacity of 1780 mAh and is changeable.

The establishment of the Huawei E5372 is simple: First, the SIM card must be inserted, then the battery and then the MiFi can be turned on with the power button on the front. After a few seconds, the E5372 is connected to the Internet, provided that no PIN protection is enabled. The configuration for wireless access is not necessary in the normal case, the Huawei E5372 recognizes the provider itself and uses the appropriate setting from a database.

The connection to tablet, Smartphone or computer is done either via USB or Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n. Normally, the wireless connection is fast enough, only if you would like to take over the full 150 Mbit/s on LTE network. The appropriate adjustment can be made using the buttons on the device, or alternatively, the configuration also by Huawei Mobile WiFi app on the tablet or smart phone or through the web interface on the computer possible. The Wi-Fi 5 GHz range is less busy frequency band and therefore less interference. For trade fairs or large events, this is worth a lot. The disadvantage of 5 GHz WLAN is the somewhat smaller range, especially in buildings.

In the test of Huawei E5372, we used the SIM cards from Vodafone and Telekom. The tariffs were activated for up to 150 MBit/s for downlink, but the maximum of 50 Mbit/s from Vodafone network LTE800 is available due to technical reasons. Overall, pretty good reception of the E5372 router could come true for uplink.  Under the Vodafone network, peak speeds of about 45 Mbit/s for downlink were possible while under the Telekom network, the maximum download speed of 118 Mbit/s was possible. On the other side, the E5372 can use the mobile Internet via GSM, UMTS in high speed.

A very important part of a mobile wireless router is the battery.  Huawei E5372 has a capacity of 1780 mAh and allows operation time of about 5-6 hours, depending on usage. Unlike many other mobile LTE hotspots, the E5372 battery can be changed in a few seconds, so for some users, a second battery could be useful.

Conclusion

The Huawei E5372 is a small mobile LTE hotspot that can score in the test with a fast modem and current WLAN technology. The software is fast and offers many options. Huawei E5372 is the perfect mobile hotspot for smartphone, tablet and other WiFi terminals. So far the router is available at 4GLTEMALL.com , you will know more about it after you get it on hand.

Huawei E5170 Home Net Box for T-Mobile Austria

Since September 2013, the Austrian provider T-Mobile offered a powerful new LTE router Home Net Box. The device is a combination of stationary and mobile router, and is manufactured by Chinese manufacturer Huawei. The factory model number is Huawei E5170s-22, which was already shown in February 2013 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. With peak speed of up to 150 MBit/s for downsteam (LTE Category 4), T-Mobile Home Net Box is one of the fastest home wireless routers available on the market.

Built-in rechargeable battery and docking station

T-Mobile Home Net Box Huawei E5170s-22 basically consists of two parts: the actual router with integrated modem and the wireless module for up to 32 wireless devices, as well as a docking station that supplies the router with power and also has an Ethernet LAN interface.

A special feature is the built-in battery in the T-Mobile Home Net box. This enables wireless operation without docking station for up to 2.5 hours, just as you would expect the E5170 working as a 4G router. The operation is normally via a web interface, so the browser of any terminal is possible. The configuration via the Huawei Mobile WiFi app is also possible.

Fast modem with LTE

As we can see, there is a “s-22” in the model number, Huawei ‘s subsidiary HiSilicon chipset is integrated inside the Huawei E5170s-22 modem. This supports cellular standards GSM, UMTS and LTE. In the fourth generation, wireless network connection of up to 150 Mbit/s for the downlink and up to 50 Mbit/s for the uplink are possible because of the LTE Category 4 can be used . Over UMTS, the maximum downlink speed of 42.2 Mbit/s are achievable, provided the network with DC-HSPA+ is equipped.

If the reception is poor, two external antenna connectors are ready for LTE or UMTS external antennas to be connected. The connection would be much helpful for computers, tablets and other devices via Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and the surfing speed could reach up to 300 Mbit/s, unfortunately, neither the 5 GHz band, nor the fast Gigabit 802.11ac Wi-Fi is supported.

We believe the HUAWEI E5170 is not introduced by only T-mobile Austria; the 4G LTE Cat4 Router E5170 would be in many operators’ product range.

HUAWEI E5372 Mobile 4G Router Review

Following the LTE-Advanced network available in Germany, more and more LTE Category 4 Mobile devices are presented to public by the operators. Now the Huawei E5372 LTE Mobile Hotspot will be available soon. We are lucky to have the opportunity to have a closer look of the Huawei E5372. Today, we will have a overview of this new LTE mobile hotspot.

LTE Category 4 to 150 Mbit/s
As a modern LTE hotspot, Huawei E5372 supports LTE Category 4 based on the latest LTE standard with up to 150 megabits per second downstream and up to 50 Mbit/s upload. The HUAWEI E5372, more accurately model number is E5372s-32, supports the LTE Frequency bands at 800/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz, which are the most popular LTE bands in Europe and Asia. So with the unlocked HUAWEI E5372, user can surf and roam in most of the LTE networks over the world. As the backup, the HUAWEI E5372 could work on UMTS/HSPA+/GSM networks where LTE network is not available. Based on the DC-HSPA+ technology, the 3G Peak download speed could reach up to 42.2 Mbit/s.

Wi-Fi for up to 11 devices
With the built-in WiFi 802.11b/g/n module, HUAWEI E5372 could support maximum downstream speed up to 300 MBit/s. A special feature compared to HUAWEI E5776 is that Huawei E5372 can not only transmit on 2.4 GHz, but also supports the 5 GHz band. This is especially useful when there are many other networks are already active in the 2.4 GHz band. Like other 4G Mobile WiFi Hotspot, up to 10 WiFi devices can be connected wirelessly through Huawei E5372. It is also possible to connect to the Internet via the microUSB connector. Therefore, up to 11 devices can surf simultaneously via the E5372 LTE hotspot.

Up to 6 hours operating time
unfortunately, the replaceable battery is 1780 mAh, which is somewhat smaller than most other MiFi hotspots. Huawei E5372 is the smallest LTE hotspot on the market. And two connectors for external antennas are available in HUAWEI E5372, while HUAWEI E5776 has only one antenna connector. The MIMO antenna technology could be used with two external antennas, one antenna can’t do the MIMO.

Same model as Vodafone R215
The Huawei E5372 LTE hotspot will be marketed with other operators’ brand; as we know, Vodafone has introduced E5372 in its product range. The new router is named Vodafone R215 and will be available in the next few weeks. And the color of R215 is in black. Other features may be the same. Per the user experience, the unlocked one or HUAWEI original one would be more convenient to roam around and support more operators.

HUAWEI E5372 4G Mobile WiFi Hotspot Test

Since we get the Huawei E5372 recently, we have another 4G mobile router in the test now. The Huawei E5372 is the little brother of the successful Huawei E5776 4G Mobile WiFi, and offers some improvements technically compared to other models tested before. The improvements includes, for example, supporting Wi-Fi in the 5 GHz range and a repeater function. The Huawei E5372 modem is already known by many operators: it offers 2G GSM, 3G UMTS and 4G LTE (Category 4 of up to 150 megabits per second for download). Huawei E5372 is a quite cheap LTE Category 4 Hotspot, even cheaper than the Vodafone branding model (the name is Vodafone R215). Now you can get the HUAWEI E5372 on 4gltemall.com .

The Huawei E5372 4G Router comes in a small cardboard box, which itself contains a micro USB cable and a quick guide next to the device. The E5372 can get power supply directly from the USB cable when connecting it with PC, or use a power adapter to charge power. However, the capacity of 1780 mAh battery is really disappointing when most of the 4G mobile hotspots are using battery of more than 3000mAh currently.

The first impression of Huawei E5372 is good. The optional white or black plastic is dull and does not attract fingerprints, the weight is 130 grams and the dimensions are quite pleasant with a 99 mm x 62 mm x 14 mm, which is very compact for an LTE-capable device. On the front, a small OLED display is placed, which displays all the important information and also allows certain settings in combination with the power button and the side menu button.
