HTC One (M8) 4G Smartphone

The HTC one (M8) is the 2014 flagship Smartphone from HTC and available since a few days in the trade. It is a direct competitor of the Samsung Galaxy S5, which also comes in these days on the market. HTC One (M8) continue to focus on camera and sound, but also the housing sets standards and is absolutely unique in the Android area. I was already able to test the device, though I have not only tried the heavily advertised multimedia features, but tested the device on the basic functions such as calling and receiving power back.

High Quality Aluminum Body
The HTC one (M8) is packed in a narrow box, with the Smartphone there is still a power adapter (Output: 5V, 1.5 A), a USB to microUSB cable and an in-ear headset. A special feature is the also supplied rubber sleeve, which makes the Smartphone a very classy look and protects the device against scratches and damage. For most users, the shell should be quite sufficient, so that the usual purchase eliminates a separate bag. Furthermore, there is of course a quick start guide and a warranty Note, also a small needle is included, with which you can detach the slide for the sim card type 4 FF (nano-SIM) from the device.

If you hold the HTC one (M8) for the first time in hand, you will be surprised directly from the extremely high-quality body. HTC has managed to improve the body materials again significantly compared to its predecessors; the device is now completely out of metal, only the speaker covers and cutouts for the antennas are still made of plastic. The HTC one (M8) is narrower at the sides and is clearly rounded, so the enormous dimensions is still quite good in the hand. One-hand operation is a problem in the Apple iPhone 5s, but in the One (M8) it’s possible under any circumstances. The display with 5 inch (12.7 cm) on the diagonal and is significantly larger than the iPhone, which offers advantages especially in multimedia features. HTC offers the One (M8) in the colors of metallic gray, silver and gold, the silver and gold have a matte case while metal gray offers brushed steel.

On the front you will find no keys on the HTC One (M8). These are shown on the display if they are needed. Above and below the display is one loudspeaker. There is also 5 megapixel LED front camera, which can also record 1080p Full HD videos. User might complain the LED that it flashes a maximum of 5 minutes, if there is a way to set this function it would be useful.

On the right side, HTC has the volume rocker attached, which is also made of metal and has a good pressure point. Above this is the slot for the microSD memory card, 16 GB of internal memory can be extended on request by up to 128 GB. On the left side there are no buttons, only the SIM slot is located. Bottom of the device is the 3.5 mm jack and the microUSB connector.
On the back center, we can see the HTC logo with the main camera of a resolution of 4 megapixels (Ultra pixel camera, as HTC calls it). The real peculiarity is to be found on the main camera: a second lens (“duo-camera”) measures the distance to the objects and allows you to change the focus in the image again in the supplement. For shooting in the dark, a dual-LED flash is built in, where a yellow LED is next to a white LED, just like Apple iPhone 5S, so the colors look more natural in the photo.

Display, camera and speakers
The display was again increased larger compared to its predecessor HTC One (M7) and now measures 5 inches in diagonal. The high resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD), provides a very sharp display, colors look very natural. The brightness of the display is sufficient to use the device well in the sun can. A special feature is the so-called “Motion Launch gestures”. They allow unlocking the HTC One (M8) even when the display is off. It sweeps around from bottom to top, so you end up immediately on the home screen. With a double-tap to get to the lock screen and can see missed calls or messages. Since the power button is placed on top of the device and with one hand is difficult to achieve, the gestures are a really convenient feature after you get the phone in hand.

The buttons are now displayed in the display.

The camera was able to convince only partially in the test. To see the photos in good light and sunshine really excellent, but the low resolution of only 4 megapixels (16:9) hardly allows subsequent “zoom” in the image. When shooting at dusk or in the dark the HTC one (M8) can also satisfying: here are many details in the pictures visible, the photos look quite natural. Something is not good on the macro mode: compared to other smart phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 , the feature cannot go particularly close to you, as well as many of the details are presented not as sharp as usual from other cameras. Overall, the camera in the HTC One (M8) is thus indeed not bad; on the contrary, they can meet the high expectations in my opinion. The large-advertised “UFocus” function with the second camera lens is actually quite hidden and selecting “Edit” from the menu only to find. The focus can be reset if you wish, which also works quite well.

The HTC speaker is also very good to offer not only a decent volume, but also a rich sound for a smartphone. But do not just listen to music is a pleasure, even hear phone calls as the hands-free function is very well.

Software
The HTC One (M8) Android comes in version 4.4.2. As a user interface, HTC Sense 6.0 is pre-installed. With 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, HTC M8 works extremely fast and reliable, in the test we were unable to find any negative points.

Reception & Battery
The modem in the HTC One M8 supports GSM/EDGE (up to 384 kbit/s), UMTS with DC-HSPA+ (up to 42.2 Mbit/s) and LTE (Category 4, up to 150 Mbps/s). It can also works with LTE frequency bands 800/900/1800/2600 megahertz, so all the bands that are used in Europe are supported. In addition, the wireless technologies Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and GPS / GLONASS are available.
The reception quality of HTC One M8 from Germany Telekom is very good. In area of WLAN, the HTC one (M8) is impressive: it offers good reception and transmits data often much further away from the base station, than comparable devices.

Overall, one can say that the engineers have done an excellent job on the HTC One (M8) and in the test consistently good reception values were achieved. The data rates were correspondingly good. Regarding the call quality, the smart phone also plays with the very top, at least when the phone call with HD voice is conducted.

In the HTC One (M8), 2600 mAh battery is built-in. Since the device supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology, fast charging is possible with a matching power supply. Unfortunately, the included power supply but does not support the technology. The battery life is about one day in heavy use, for normal use it should also be feasible two days. However, if the camera is often used and the integrated step counter function is enabled, then you should recharge the HTC one (M8) every day.

Conclusion
HTC One (M8) is a very good smartphone on the market. The case studied in its same, the details of how the gesture control a lot of fun and the basics such as reception and voice quality are also right for Android segment. Only the camera cannot keep quite what HTC promises. The HTC one (M8) is now available with or without a contract in the site www.4gltemall.com . The retail price is without a contract and buy it now have special gift for the orders.

Telekom Speed Stick LTE IV Comes From Alcatel W800

The Germany operator Telekom offers a new LTE surf stick- Speed Stick LTE IV from November of 2013. Since in May, a high-end model Speed Stick LTE III was introduced by Huawei, then the new model Speed Stick LTE IV comes from TCT Mobile (Alcatel), which is the same manufacturer as the Speed Stick II LTE. The special feature: a built-in Wi-Fi module will support up to 10 other devices to access internet wirelessly with an Internet connection.

Alcatel W800 LTE WiFi Dongle

The Telekom Speed Stick LTE IV is based on the Alcatel W800, which we have recently been introduced. The chipset is a Qualcomm MDM9215 modem, which supports DC-HSPA+ and GSM/EDGE/UMTS is also backward. As a LTE category 3 WiFi dongle, Telekom Speed stick LTE IV supports up to 100 Mbit/s downstream and 50 Mbit/s for upload. The working LTE frequency bands at 800, 1800 or 2600 megahertz according to their location used.
The full LTE speed cannot be reached, in real network environment, the WLAN module can only reaches around 75 MBit/s for downlink, and uplink for wireless connection probably no more than about 30 Mbit/s are available.

Apart from the slot for standard mini-SIM cards, the manufacturer TCT Mobile has also integrates a slot for MicroSD cards supporting up to 32 GB storage. No connectors for an external antenna are available in this dongle. With about 39 grams, Telekom Speed Stick LTE IV is quite easy to take in hand or pocket, the dimensions of 89.0 x 27.5 x 14.0 mm are similar to those of other LTE surf sticks.

Speed Stick LTE models at a glance

The Speed Stick LTE IV is now already the fourth LTE Surfstick available at Germany Telekom, and we have summarized the models in a small table below:

Model Manufacturer & Model LTE Category Speed
Speed Stick LTE Huawei E398 Category 3 100 Mbit/s
Speed Stick II LTE Alcatel L100V Category 3 100 Mbit/s
Speed Stick LTE III Huawei E3276 Category 4 150 Mbit/s
Speed Stick LTE IV Alcatel W800 Category 3 100 Mbit/s

The Telekom Speed Stick LTE first generation is only sporadically available through online shops, Telekom no longer sells this device now. As we can see in the table, the name does not necessarily correspond to the quality and the speed of the modem. Thus, the current top model is clearly the Speed Stick LTE III (Huawei E3276) in the 4 models; many users would even classify the first Speed Stick LTE (Huawei E398) best model than the previous, since the reception is very good. Even with the equipment, there are some major differences Between Alcatel and Huawei Speed Stick models, for example, connections for an external antenna, which is not available in Alcatel Sticks.

HUAWEI E5372 Mobile 4G Router Review

Following the LTE-Advanced network available in Germany, more and more LTE Category 4 Mobile devices are presented to public by the operators. Now the Huawei E5372 LTE Mobile Hotspot will be available soon. We are lucky to have the opportunity to have a closer look of the Huawei E5372. Today, we will have a overview of this new LTE mobile hotspot.

LTE Category 4 to 150 Mbit/s
As a modern LTE hotspot, Huawei E5372 supports LTE Category 4 based on the latest LTE standard with up to 150 megabits per second downstream and up to 50 Mbit/s upload. The HUAWEI E5372, more accurately model number is E5372s-32, supports the LTE Frequency bands at 800/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz, which are the most popular LTE bands in Europe and Asia. So with the unlocked HUAWEI E5372, user can surf and roam in most of the LTE networks over the world. As the backup, the HUAWEI E5372 could work on UMTS/HSPA+/GSM networks where LTE network is not available. Based on the DC-HSPA+ technology, the 3G Peak download speed could reach up to 42.2 Mbit/s.

Wi-Fi for up to 11 devices
With the built-in WiFi 802.11b/g/n module, HUAWEI E5372 could support maximum downstream speed up to 300 MBit/s. A special feature compared to HUAWEI E5776 is that Huawei E5372 can not only transmit on 2.4 GHz, but also supports the 5 GHz band. This is especially useful when there are many other networks are already active in the 2.4 GHz band. Like other 4G Mobile WiFi Hotspot, up to 10 WiFi devices can be connected wirelessly through Huawei E5372. It is also possible to connect to the Internet via the microUSB connector. Therefore, up to 11 devices can surf simultaneously via the E5372 LTE hotspot.

Up to 6 hours operating time
unfortunately, the replaceable battery is 1780 mAh, which is somewhat smaller than most other MiFi hotspots. Huawei E5372 is the smallest LTE hotspot on the market. And two connectors for external antennas are available in HUAWEI E5372, while HUAWEI E5776 has only one antenna connector. The MIMO antenna technology could be used with two external antennas, one antenna can’t do the MIMO.

Same model as Vodafone R215
The Huawei E5372 LTE hotspot will be marketed with other operators’ brand; as we know, Vodafone has introduced E5372 in its product range. The new router is named Vodafone R215 and will be available in the next few weeks. And the color of R215 is in black. Other features may be the same. Per the user experience, the unlocked one or HUAWEI original one would be more convenient to roam around and support more operators.

HUAWEI E5372 4G Mobile WiFi Hotspot Test

Since we get the Huawei E5372 recently, we have another 4G mobile router in the test now. The Huawei E5372 is the little brother of the successful Huawei E5776 4G Mobile WiFi, and offers some improvements technically compared to other models tested before. The improvements includes, for example, supporting Wi-Fi in the 5 GHz range and a repeater function. The Huawei E5372 modem is already known by many operators: it offers 2G GSM, 3G UMTS and 4G LTE (Category 4 of up to 150 megabits per second for download). Huawei E5372 is a quite cheap LTE Category 4 Hotspot, even cheaper than the Vodafone branding model (the name is Vodafone R215). Now you can get the HUAWEI E5372 on 4gltemall.com .

The Huawei E5372 4G Router comes in a small cardboard box, which itself contains a micro USB cable and a quick guide next to the device. The E5372 can get power supply directly from the USB cable when connecting it with PC, or use a power adapter to charge power. However, the capacity of 1780 mAh battery is really disappointing when most of the 4G mobile hotspots are using battery of more than 3000mAh currently.

The first impression of Huawei E5372 is good. The optional white or black plastic is dull and does not attract fingerprints, the weight is 130 grams and the dimensions are quite pleasant with a 99 mm x 62 mm x 14 mm, which is very compact for an LTE-capable device. On the front, a small OLED display is placed, which displays all the important information and also allows certain settings in combination with the power button and the side menu button.

Vodafone K5150 (HUAWEI) 4G LTE Stick Test

Vodafone has launched the K5150 LTE stick in this year. K5150 is a new USB modem on the market. The surf stick is manufactured by Huawei and comes in red and white design in the Vodafone stores. Supporting LTE Category 4 with up to 150 MBit/s in downlink, Vodafone K5150 is one of the fastest surf sticks on the market. Backward with DC-HSPA+ technology, connectors for external antennas and a slot for MicroSD cards are available. We have tested the K5150 modem for 2 weeks on the Vodafone network!

Vodafone K5150 Specifications
Vodafone K5150 LTE stick not only offers super-fast LTE with up to 150 Mbit/s, but also including UMTS DC-HSPA+ (up to 42.2 Mbit/s) and GSM. Vodafone is first operator in Europe to provide the maximum data rates. Under LTE networks, the practical downlink could reach approximately 120 Mbit/s, and the UMTS downlink speed could reach up to about 31 Mbit/s.
The USB port is protected by a small cap, unfortunately, the connection cannot swing as you wish like other high-end surfsticks HUAWEI E3276.  Especially for use in places with limited space, such as on the train, this function would be very useful.

At the side of the 4G Stick K5150, two connectors for external antennas and a slot for MicroSD memory cards have been integrated, so you can use the surf stick as storage media if necessary and can amplify the reception with an external antenna. The external antenna is TS-9, you could buy original Huawei 4G Antenna on 4gltemall.com.

Vodafone K5150 LTE stick is in a very nice design, just like the 4G models that we had introduced, such as Vodafone R210 and from Vodafone K5007. The top of the K5150 can forwardly away, below is the slot for the SIM card.  Most users will not need the manual, since the installation of the Vodafone connection software is largely self-explanatory: after plugging it into a computer with Mac OS X or Windows operating system, the installation wizard automatically starts and guides in a few moments through the installation. After a short time it is already connected to the wireless network.

Speed and Reception
As you would expect from a modern LTE modem, the speeds are consistently good. However, the test was only on the 800 megahertz LTE network, even though, the performance on average is better than other 4G devices: downlink up to 55 Mbit/s were possible while the uplink of up to 23 Mbit/s. And the latency times were between 28 and 44 milliseconds, but usually in the range of 35 ms. The reception LTE800 was good, even in low-served regions, we could still surf with the Vodafone K5150 stably on the internet.

In the UMTS network, the receiving performance was also above average and was as easily one of the Huawei E3276. The data rates were about the same, however, various measurements showed about 13 Mbit/s for downlink via Vodafone DC-HSPA+.

Vodafone Connection Software
Vodafone provides with K5150 LTE stick from a piece of software which runs on both Windows operating systems and Mac OS X. For Windows XP, you need at least version with Service Pack 3, wherein the instructions to install even explains the basis of previously little common Windows 8.

The software has its good and bad sides. The advantages: The program is very easy for beginners to use and is pleasantly fast, if the PC is not too old. The detailed information and statistics about online time and data volume are exemplary. The cons: for experts, there are very limited possibilities to make adjustments and integrated into the software Manager interferes tremendously.

Conclusion to the Vodafone K5150 LTE Stick
The Vodafone K5150 LTE stick makes a good impression and is particularly recommended for Vodafone customers who just want a fast Internet connection without having to rely on special additional functions. Alternatively, the almost identical Huawei E3276 offers, for example, as Telekom LTE Speed Stick III of which does its job well in various router models.
