Vodafone B3000 LTE Category 4 WiFi Router

The Vodafone B3000 LTE Router is available in stores now. The device is the successor to the Vodafone B2000 , which came on the market in spring 2012. The highlight of B3000 is the support for LTE with up to 150 MBit/s in the downlink and 50 Mbit/s in the uplink (LTE Category 4), in addition, the router can be used for calls via VoIP. The design is largely identical to its predecessor, and also the target group has not changed: Vodafone offers the B3000 primarily business customers.

LTE Category 4 and VoIP
On the back and on the sides of Vodafone B3000, we can find all sorts of connections. The four LAN ports connect to network-enabled devices and two RJ11 connectors allow the connection of analog phones. Furthermore, two USB connections for the integration of a printer or USB storage device available and under a cover there are two connectors for external antennas (type: SMA). For example, the LTE reception quality can be improved by the LTE MIMO antenna . On the front, various LEDs indicate the operating status. The user can see at a glance, for example, the signal strength and network technology here.

The Vodafone B3000 LTE router is manufactured by Huawei and it carries on the model number of Huawei B593s-22. Besides LTE Category 4, the modem allows UMTS including DC-HSPA+ (up to 42.2 Mbit/s) and of course GSM/EDGE. The supported frequency bands include the 800 MHz and 2600 MHz for LTE used by Vodafone, if there are more bands are supported, it is not clear from the documents at our disposal. But we are sure that the original model Huawei B593S-22 would support the LTE FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz & TDD 2600MHz.

The WLAN module operates at 2.4 GHz and supports up to 32 simultaneously connected Wi-Fi devices. According to the manufacturer Huawei, the power consumption of Vodafone B3000 is under 12 watts.

But it’s better to get unlocked one before purchasing, the unlocked one would use with any other operators besides Vodafone.

Huawei Presents LTE Cat6 MiFi E5786

As the world’s first mobile Wi-Fi hotspot (MiFi), Huawei E5786 with LTE-Advanced (category 6) was presented a few months ago. The Huawei E5786 allows downlink speeds of up to 300 megabits per second; of course, the wireless network must be equipped accordingly. A 3000 mAh powerful battery provides up to 10 hours of operating time, thanks to Wi-Fi 802.11ac, the full LTE Category 6 speed can make true on the terminal used. The Huawei E5786 is the direct successor of Huawei E5776, which came to Germany in early 2013 on the market.

The E5786 was a highlight of Huawei press conference at MWC 2014

LTE with up to 300 MBit/s
Huawei have introduced the E5786 as the world’s first device that supports LTE-Advanced with up to 300 megabits per second in the downlink. The device is based on the the carrier aggregation technology for wireless transmission, depending on the cell bandwidth said top speeds are possible. In Germany, however, Carrier aggregation cannot use everywhere, but mainly in areas with high data volumes. Also, the launch date is not yet known – the provider Telefonica O2 , Vodafone and German Telekom are testing it diligently.

The modem is made by Huawei subsidiary HiSilicon. In addition to LTE, Huawei E5786 also supports both UMTS including DC-HSPA+ (up to 42.2 Mbit/s in the downlink) and GSM/EDGE. A maximum of 10 devices can be connected wirelessly to the router via wireless 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, an additional device is also connected via micro-USB. The (non-removable battery) has a capacity of 3000 mAh and should provide about 10 hours of running time.
Operation is via a web interface, as you already know it from other mobile Wi-Fi hotspots ago. Upon request, even other devices can be recharged via the Huawei E5786, if a suitable cable is available. Huawei calls this Reverse Charging technology.

Reverse Charging is one of the many features of Huawei E5786.

Other equipment and Hands-On
Under a cover of the Huawei E5786 side, there are two connectors for external antennas. Since the E5786 “only” 2 × 2 MIMO support, you also need only two terminals. Theoretically, the speed would be by 4 antennas, ie MIMO 4 × 4, again in need of improvement.

Although the back of the Huawei E5786 can remove, the battery is built-in installed. Under the cover, there is a slot for SIM cards and a slot for MicroSD memory cards. A menu button on the top allows the operation of simple functions such as the wireless repeater function, which is already known on Huawei E5372.

LTE Cat 6 with 300 MBit/s Available on Telekom from summer

The German Telekom plans the introduction of LTE-Advanced (category 6) at speeds of up to 300 Mbit/s from the summer of 2014. This information was announced at CeBIT, held in Hannover since Monday. The increased bandwidth would be realized mainly in cities and in places with high traffic. Technically, it is LTE Category 6, Telekom combined the frequency bands around 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz (carrier aggregation).

Telekom uses three frequency bands for LTE

The German Telekom has its LTE network currently being expanded to three frequency ranges. In the country, LTE800 was used in the frequency range around 800 MHz, the Telekom stand for 10 MHz bandwidth. The maximum speed is here around 70 MBit/s in downlink, in reality about 50-55 Mbit/s can be achieved.
On the other hand, in cities, small towns and larger villages expanded to LTE1800, here a 20 MHz wide spectrum is available, i.e. the maximum speed with LTE Category 4 is about 150 Mbit/s. The LTE1800 network is thus significantly more powerful than the LTE800 network. However, it also has a shorter range and this is even very useful in the city, then radio cells are not overloaded so big and so quickly.
Telekom also uses the frequency range around 2600 MHz. LTE2600 is mainly developed in the places where many people gather, such as airports, train stations or city centers. For example, in the subway at the Nuremberg or main station in Friedrichshafen. Also on LTE2600 up to 150 MBit/s are currently achievable in downlink, because there is a 20 MHz wide range available.

300 MBit/s with carrier aggregation
To achieve maximum downlink rate of 300 Mbit/s, two frequency bands of 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz, are combined and concentrated in the terminal to a 40 MHz wide channel. This is called carrier aggregation to German carrier bundling. Carrier aggregation is a part of LTE-Advanced and 300 Mbit/s is called LTE Category 6. Today’s devices can usually support only LTE Category 3 or Category 4, so for the new speeds in each case, new devices will be necessary to support the Carrier aggregation or Cat 6. The Huawei E5786 is a first LTE mobile hotspot presented for Cat 6, we had introduced this hotspot here.

The Huawei E5786 Hotspot is the first terminal for 300 Mbit/s LTE

The speed of 300 Mbit/s will be available according to Telekom from summer; exact details are not yet streamlined. But it is certain that the particular location must be supplied in any case simultaneously with LTE1800 and LTE2600.  Of course, Carrier Aggregation with LTE1800 and LTE800 would be possible, here are then up to 225 Mbit/s can be achieved, provided that both bands can be received.

Huawei B880 4G LTE Router at A1 Austria

Followed Huawei E5170 Speedbox, a new LTE Router Huawei B880 offered by A1 Austria and is available now. Huawei B880 is a LTE Category 4 WiFi Router and support maximum of 150 Mbit/s downlink and 50 Mbit/s in the uplink. A1 offers these speeds currently in major cities. The router is technically quite similar to the Huawei B593s-22, which does not have a LAN connection and it’s regarded as a older version. The biggest criticism of Huawei B593 also unfortunately exists in Huawei B880: either the LAN terminal or the wireless module will be capable of the full speed of 150 Mbit/s when transfer to a terminal. So Huawei continues only on Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and the LAN port can operate with a maximum of 100 Mbit/s.

Ports and Wireless Technology
On the back of the Huawei B880, we can found there is a RJ11 telephone connector next to the LAN port, so you can use the B880 as a full telephone system. Furthermore, a WAN connection is available; here you can connect the router as needed without mobile to the internet. A USB port also allows the use of a printer or USB storage device on the network. Like many other routers, the Huawei B880 has two SMA connectors for external antennas. The 4G External antenna for Huawei B880 is available on 4GLTEMall.com , and there are 35 dBi, which will help users get much better signal strength and network connection.

The chipset is manufactured by Huawei and belongs to subsidiary HiSilicon series. This chipset can be found in various modems, such as the Huawei B593u-12 (Telekom Speedbox LTE II ). By supporting LTE Category 4, and associated downlink speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s, Huawei B880 could be a top 4G wireless router now. Faster devices are expected until the second half of 2014. In addition to LTE, GSM and UMTS network modes are aslo supported, in the UMTS network via DC-HSPA+, the peak link speed could reach up to 42.2 Mbit/s.

Here now there is unlocked Huawei B880 for sale at 4gltemall.com and if you want the 4G Antenna for Huawei B880, it’s also available. The Unlocked Huawei B880 would work with all the 4G operators in Europe, and most operators in Asia.

Telekom Speed Stick LTE IV Comes From Alcatel W800

The Germany operator Telekom offers a new LTE surf stick- Speed Stick LTE IV from November of 2013. Since in May, a high-end model Speed Stick LTE III was introduced by Huawei, then the new model Speed Stick LTE IV comes from TCT Mobile (Alcatel), which is the same manufacturer as the Speed Stick II LTE. The special feature: a built-in Wi-Fi module will support up to 10 other devices to access internet wirelessly with an Internet connection.

Alcatel W800 LTE WiFi Dongle

The Telekom Speed Stick LTE IV is based on the Alcatel W800, which we have recently been introduced. The chipset is a Qualcomm MDM9215 modem, which supports DC-HSPA+ and GSM/EDGE/UMTS is also backward. As a LTE category 3 WiFi dongle, Telekom Speed stick LTE IV supports up to 100 Mbit/s downstream and 50 Mbit/s for upload. The working LTE frequency bands at 800, 1800 or 2600 megahertz according to their location used.
The full LTE speed cannot be reached, in real network environment, the WLAN module can only reaches around 75 MBit/s for downlink, and uplink for wireless connection probably no more than about 30 Mbit/s are available.

Apart from the slot for standard mini-SIM cards, the manufacturer TCT Mobile has also integrates a slot for MicroSD cards supporting up to 32 GB storage. No connectors for an external antenna are available in this dongle. With about 39 grams, Telekom Speed Stick LTE IV is quite easy to take in hand or pocket, the dimensions of 89.0 x 27.5 x 14.0 mm are similar to those of other LTE surf sticks.

Speed Stick LTE models at a glance

The Speed Stick LTE IV is now already the fourth LTE Surfstick available at Germany Telekom, and we have summarized the models in a small table below:

Model Manufacturer & Model LTE Category Speed
Speed Stick LTE Huawei E398 Category 3 100 Mbit/s
Speed Stick II LTE Alcatel L100V Category 3 100 Mbit/s
Speed Stick LTE III Huawei E3276 Category 4 150 Mbit/s
Speed Stick LTE IV Alcatel W800 Category 3 100 Mbit/s

The Telekom Speed Stick LTE first generation is only sporadically available through online shops, Telekom no longer sells this device now. As we can see in the table, the name does not necessarily correspond to the quality and the speed of the modem. Thus, the current top model is clearly the Speed Stick LTE III (Huawei E3276) in the 4 models; many users would even classify the first Speed Stick LTE (Huawei E398) best model than the previous, since the reception is very good. Even with the equipment, there are some major differences Between Alcatel and Huawei Speed Stick models, for example, connections for an external antenna, which is not available in Alcatel Sticks.

Global chip giant fighting Chinese 4G LTE market in MWC

2014 Mobile World Congress (Mobile World Congress, hereinafter referred to as the MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, the world’s leading mobile products manufacturers have come up with special skill. However, in addition to increasing media exposure outside of their major technology, mobile chip giant also did not forget to take the opportunity to compete for Chinese 4G mobile network market.

Because including China Mobile, the Chinese mobile operators are racing to upgrade to 4G LTE mobile network. The smart phones main component manufacturers Qualcomm, Intel, MediaTek, Marvell and Broadcom, compete for the world’s largest mobile market on the occasion of MWC.

Chinese mobile operator’s evolution of LTE technology allows Intel and other chip makers saw a great opportunity to push top LTE chip maker Qualcomm off the altar. The MWC Conference will undoubtedly become a crucial battleground. There are 70 Chinese companies exhibiting MWC Assembly last year, and this year the figure further increased to 99. Therefore, MWC Assembly provides the perfect stage for the global mobile chip manufacturers to showcase their best products.

Intel and Qualcomm chip manufacturers will show the first new microchip-based LTE technology products in Barcelona, many of these chip consumes less power, but the price is also lower than the previous cutting-edge products. This makes them ideal chip products for low-end smartphones in China and other emerging markets.

Qualcomm even designed for MWC Assembly developed a Chinese version of the smart phone applications, and posted in the booth scene identification with Chinese translation. Cristiano, executive vice president of Qualcomm • Amon (Cristiano Amon) said: “We will show a lot of products designed to attract Chinese enterprises and products on LTE technology Qualcomm LTE technology and aware of emerging market consumers migrate to smart phones. the hidden huge opportunity. ”

LTE chip demand surge

With the advantage of early technology, Qualcomm has been the main producer for LTE smartphone chip market in the past four years. And more and more countries have begun to adopt LTE network technology which also enables LTE chip demand surge.

MediaTek chief marketing officer Johan Lodenius, said: “Qualcomm is very good at developing LTE technology chips, however, almost all of the world’s mobile operators are looking for an alternative vendor of LTE chips in our favor. They don’t want to outsource to individual Qualcomm. ”

Intel, MediaTek, Broadcom and Qualcomm’s other competitors are invariably hyping their new exhibition site in MWC Barcelona, LTE chip products coming soon, however, very few of which can be launched in a variety of smart phones applications this week.

Headquartered in Santa Clara, California, chip maker Marvell has achieved some success; it has been applied in LTE accessories designed for the Chinese market on the development of several upcoming low-power smart phones.

Adjustment chip strategy

On Monday, Intel announced a new LTE chip, and is working with major mobile operators to start testing the chip. Intel marketing director Julie • Corpus Noel said the new LTE chip will be allocated to in the production of mobile phones in late 2014. She said: “LTE chip on the market on how to apply to the overwhelming rumors on the phone and we’ve effectively launched its own chips for our products that we have made significant improvements …”

Like other chip makers, Intel has also restructured the chip strategy, started paying more for the price below $ 300 smart phone product development, while reducing the degree of concern for the high-end smart phone accessories.

According to the UK technology market research, firm ARM Holdings published statistics show that as of 2018, the global high-end smart phone shipments are expected the annual growth rate of just under 4%; while mid-range and entry-level smartphone shipments are expected to annual growth rate were as high as 14% and 17%.

Qualcomm announced the launch of two mobile chips using LTE technology this week, and consumer markets target at China. A Qualcomm spokeswoman said, the world’s leading mobile phone manufacturers will launch 10 or more devices with Qualcomm’s new chip.

Even Microsoft is also expanding its influence in the Chinese mobile phone market. Microsoft announced the launch of new reference design projects, designed to facilitate the rapid introduction of mobile phone manufacturers using Qualcomm chips Windows smartphones.

Huawei E8278 E8278S-602 Open Box and Review

Today, we get the 4G LTE Cat4 Wi-Fi dongle Huawei E8278. Since the release day, it has been for a whole year that we get it. The model we get is Huawei E8278s-602, which is for Australia operator Telstra.

Packed in customized box from Telstra, Huawei E8278 is in the center box with a power adapter. There is a USB port in the adaper, which can help Huawei E8278 to get power supply directly, not from desktop or laptop. The USB is rotatable for 180 degree and hidden in the body of the modem.

As we introduced before, Huawei E8278 looks like a 4G USB Modem, but actually it is a WiFi hotspot through which multiple terminals can access internet in high speed. E8278 is a LTE category 4 UE, which mean the maximum downlink speed could reach 150mbps. The official saying about Huawei E8278s-602 is that it could support 4G LTE FDD 800/900/1800/2600MHz & TDD 2600MHz. And the 3G DC-HSPA+ network support is backward. E8278 supports 3G UMTS Band 850/900/1900/2100MHz. The Huawei E8278 we get is SIM card unlocked. So if you get an unlocked E8278, you can take it around the world for travel. The Huawei E8278 would work with most operators over the world. Even on 3G network, the maximum download speed could reach amazing 42Mbps.

On the body side, there are two external antenna connectors for external high gain antennas. One connector is with the MircoSD card slot. They are covered by a plastic cap. There is Signal slogan on the cap. The external antenna connector socket is TS-9. User can also get the 4G Antenna from 4gltemall.com . The Huawei E8278 4G Antenna has two connectors (TS-9 jack) and covers almost all the 4G Frequency bands. The antenna is small and easy to take in bag, just like Huawei e8278. Users don’t need to worry about the week network coverage if far from the center city.

What’s more, the Huawei E8278 can support up to 10 WiFi users to share the wireless network and access internet simultaneously. With the ability of high speed data transmission, you don’t need worry about the slow speed when sharing the WiFi. It’s a pity that there is no battery included, otherwise, it would be a mobile pocket router. But Huawei E8278 is still a good mobile WiFi dongle worthy to have as a WiFi hotspot when there is power supply.
