Based on LTE category 4 technology, the Huawei E5770 could achieve wireless speeds of up to 150 megabits per second in the downlink and 50 Mbit/s in the uplink. Of course the device is also backwards compatible with UMTS and GSM. It is also possible to connect using the Wireless Extender function with a wireless network. User can access via an Ethernet LAN cable, which is connected to the RJ45 connector of the Huawei E5770.

The Huawei E5770 is the first mobile Internet Hotspot with LTE, which can share the internet connection not only via USB or Wi-Fi, but also a built-in LAN port. Thus the device can be easily connected to a computer or other network-enabled device. Alternatively you can also connect an Ethernet hub and the Huawei E5770 can be so easily used to connect many different devices via network cable to the Internet.

Battery with Power Bank Function

Normally, mobile LTE routers have a battery capacity of about 1,500 to a maximum of 3,000 mAh. Huawei has now installed the E5770 for the first time a battery with 5,200 mAh. And thereby it allows an operating time of up to 20 hours as a wireless router. Unfortunately, the battery is not removable, although you can remove the back to insert the SIM card and the memory card. The battery can be used for charging other devices, such as smart phones or digital cameras using the built-in USB port for that matter. A short USB to microUSB cable is already included for the purpose. This is so compact and elegant, it can be taken without problems at any time.

Operation via web interface and app

The Huawei E5770 can be configured via a web interface in any browser or via an application for Apple iOS and Google Android either. And the Web App are ready for connection information, such as data usage, time online and network coverage. In addition, for example, settings for the WLAN module and the Ethernet interface are possible. For the most important status information, user can check the small OLED display right on the device.

In January 2013, Speedbox LTE mini came out. Again, a model was used as the previous model, which is based on a device from Huawei. The model number is Huawei E5786.

Highlights of Speedbox LTE mini II

Instead of LTE category 4 with the frequency bands 800/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz, the Speedbox LTE mini II is now with Category 6 and supports more bands with additional 4G at 850 MHz. Thanks to LTE CAT6, a maximum download rate of up to 300 Mbit/s is possible, which is twice the first Speedbox LTE mini. In addition to the normal Speedbox II, this is the first LTE-Advanced router available in Germany. The particularly fast standard 802.11ac allows here a data transfer of up to 433 Mbit/s, while the module sends on 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz.

The capacity of the battery was 3,000 mAh available. The dimensions remained almost the same as E5786, only the weight more slightly to 5 grams. The Speedbox Mini LTE is powered by a new chipset from Huawei HiSilicon, which comes along in 28-nanometer architecture Cortex-A9 architecture and allows the use of LTE CAT6. Furthermore, if the high-speed internet is not available,  you can also rely on HSPA (+) with up to 43.2 Mbit/s, and EDGE and GPRS are also supported.

Wireless Internet Hotspot

The small dimensions make the Mini-Router an ideal travel partner. At the same time, the device has a hotspot feature that allows up to 10 other terminals to access the Internet. It’s perfect to use it in apartments without power, or in the car etc.

Availability

The Speedbox LTE mini II can be ordered at Germany Telekom since mid-September 2014. At the Telekom, it will not only provides the network operator logo on the surface, a software-branding is also available. Thus for example, the wireless repeater function of the E5786 has been disabled.  If you know the difference between the Speedbox LTE Mini II with E5786, you many prefer the unbranded Huawei E5786 with full functions activated. Without any SIM lock, you can take the pocket WiFi anywhere!

Difference Between Huawei E5770 and E5730s

In the market of network equipment, Huawei is always one of the most influential companies. We can see the clear demonstration of how the world is evolving on vendor network equipment on two mobile routers: First one is the snow white Huawei E5730 and the other one Huawei Mobile WiFi Pro E5770 showed at the MWC 2015 in Barcelona. Somebody may ask what’s the difference them. The list below shows some basic difference between them:

Model

Huawei E5730s

Huawei E5770

Type 3G Mobile Hotspot 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot
Network DC-HSPA+/UMTS/HSPA TDD-LTE/FDD-LTE/DC-HSPA+/UMTS/HSPA
Data Rate DL 42Mbps/UL 5.76Mbps DL 150Mbps/UL 50Mbps
WLAN 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz
Battery 5200mAh 5200mAh
Dimensions 99.0mm×66.3mm×22.5mm 106.0 mm × 68.4 mm × 22.5 mm

It’s no doubt that the RJ 45 port on the Huawei E5770 and E5730 is the top shinning feature. It provides much more possibility of network solution for user. Secondly, the large power capacity is also practical function for most users. As a mobile hotspot, they have the backup functions which can make users have great experience. Actually, they are similar and different at the same time: the power output and input ports and Ethernet port are both at the side. The ports on Huawei Mobile WiFi Pro E5770 are covered by a cap, so users have to open the cap and see all the ports. The Huawei E5730 is in white while the E5770 has two colors: white and black.

The boy difference is also obvious: Huawei E5730 has only one power button on the front, while Huawei E5770 has LED screen on the front. On the display, user can see the battery status, network status, SSID and password, connected WiFi users. The battery capacity of 5200mAh is printed on the back of Huawei E5770, but at the body side of E5730.

Huawei E5770 is a little bit thinner than E5730. The batteries in the two devices are both non-removable. But the back cover could be opened and the SIM card slot is there. Huawei E5770 has one SD card slot, but E5730 has no SD card slot. And there is stick besides the SIM card slot. It shows the model number, IMEI number, S/N number, SSID, WiFi password and QR-code to download Huawei Mobile WiFi APP.

The most attractive and important feature for them is the supported networks. Upgraded from Huawei E5730, Huawei E5770 could support peak download speed to 150mbps based on LTE Category 4 chipset. The upload speed could reach 50mbps. E5730 can’t reach the speed but as a 3G mobile hotspot, it’s almost one of the best 3G routers based on its specifications. When Huawei E5730 was on sales, somebody is asking: when can i buy the 4G version of Huawei E5730 with RJ45 port? Now Huawei Mobile WiFi Pro E5770 is available. This the version for 4G pocket router with RJ45. So if you like it, it’s time to get one.

Huawei E5770 Mobile WiFi Pro Review

Huawei new 4G Mobile WiFi hotspots always give great surprise to us. The new 4G pocket router Huawei E5770 Mobile WiFi Pro fills a gap in the extensive range of Huawei router: the unit combines a powerful LTE modem with a RJ-45 LAN port and a strong 5.200 mAh battery. In March 2015, the LTE mobile router was on the occasion of the Mobile World Congress presented in Barcelona, now the device is also available in many countries. With a small display on the front and a WiFi Extender function, the Huawei E5770 could register into existing wireless networks in order to use these as Internet access.

Appearance

The Huawei E5770 Mobile WiFi Pro comes in a turquoise cardboard box. In the package, there is a PSU with USB port, a microUSB charging cable and a Quick Start Guide and safety information. At first glance, the Huawei E5770 looks quite large with 200 grams, at least in comparison with other mobile LTE hotspots such as the Huawei E5377. This is mainly due to the exceptionally strong battery that is not replaceable by the way. The Huawei E5770 is manufactured in black or white and completely made of plastic. The following are the technical data in the overview:

Operation & Software

The operation of the Huawei E5770 is very simple. The SIM card must be plugged like an optional memory card under the removable rear panel. There you can find the activated WLAN password, and the address for the Web Interface and the password required for this. The SIM card is inserted together with the MicroSD card on the back. The operation and configuration via the web interface is quick and easily, both on desktop computers and on Tablet touchscreen. On the start screen, the consumed data volume and online time is displayed, on request you can have a look at detailed statistics or tariff limits deposit. It is also possible to receive and send SMS. Navigate to the tab “Settings”; you can set your machine accurately, about the wireless connection or the RJ45 Ethernet connection.

WLAN and Ethernet

The Huawei E5770 Mobile WiFi Pro offers three ways to access the Internet. First of course there’s the classic access via the mobile network so that up to 150 MBit/s accessible via LTE Cat4. Then you can also use the RJ45 Ethernet port as Internet access, which offers network connection at home, office or hotel. The third way to access the Internet is the so-called Wi-Fi Extender: the Huawei E5770 thus uses an existing wireless network to access internet.

All three types of access have worked well and without any problems in the test. Particularly interesting is the WiFi Extender function, because then it is also possible to connect multiple devices to a wireless network. As soon as the wireless network, the Huawei E5770 automatically switches from LTE to Wi-Fi access. Huawei E5770 could support up to 11 devices simultaneously. In LTE network, the Huawei E5770 Mobile WiFi Pro Router provides a good reception and many supported frequency ranges, so that it can also be used abroad in many countries. Huawei E5770 would support LTE Advanced Cat4 and the LTE modem Cat4 could achieve 140Mbit/s in the test. It’s a pity that it can’t support LTE CAT6, also disappointed that Huawei mobile WiFi Pro doesn’t have connections for an external antenna.

Battery and More

With the amazing 5,200 mAh strong battery, the Huawei E5770 Mobile WiFi may be used up to 20 hours per operating as a mobile LTE hotspot. The full-size USB port allows charging other devices such as smartphones or tablets. Through the output of 5V / 2A, the charging goes very quickly. The battery capacity is proudly advertised. But the battery can’t be removed. Finally, a little word to the display on the front of the Huawei E5770: this is definitely smaller than many other mobile wireless hotspots of Huawei, but it does the job properly and provides all important information such as data usage and battery status clearly. With a short press on the power button, you can see the wireless password in screen.

Conclusion: A perfect solution for Travel

The Huawei E5770 is a good mobile LTE router with two great unique features: it is the first device of its kind with RJ-45 LAN port and simultaneous support for LTE and it is one of the few devices, which simultaneously can also be used as a power bank for charging other devices. Overall, the router can convince definitely, besides the classic functions of the wireless Extender function should be emphasized. But there are three drawbacks: the missing of 5GHz WLAN and connections for an external antenna, and the feature of LTE Cat6 with 300 Mbit/s is not supported. Even though, the Huawei E5770 Mobile WiFi Pro is still a wonderful pocket WiFi router!

If you want the LTE cat6 mobile wifi, huawei E5786 may help you.

Huawei E5786 4G Mobile WiFi Hotspot Test

The Huawei E5786 LTE MiFi Hotspot has been presented at the occasion of the Mobile World Congress in February 2014 in Barcelona. It was the first terminal which could support LTE Category 6 with up to 300 Mbps. Now the mobile hotspot is available for many network providers on the market and network operators have their networks partially equipped with LTE-Advanced Category 6. To know more details about Huawei E5786, please proceed to see more tests in this article.

The Huawei E5786 is available in black and white color and is made entirely of plastic. The back is slightly rubberized and feels very high quality. The front is covered by a transparent plastic and attracts fingerprints like a magnet. The dimensions and weight are comfortable; you can transport the E5786 easily in your pocket or backpack. In addition to the E5786 router, there is still a USB cable, a power adapter and a quick start guide included. The usual safety instructions must not be missed.

On the front there is a black-and-white display, which indicates all important functions. In addition, the power button is placed, with which you turn the unit on and off, and can operate the menu function. At the side, you will find a cover under which two connectors for external antennas are located. The back is removable and the slot for the MicroSIM card and a slot for microSD cards revealed. The 3000 mAh battery cannot be removed unfortunately.

In our test, the reception was always very good, usually even better than its predecessor Huawei E5776. Also in the UMTS network, the sending and receiving power was good. Upon request, the reception can be further improved with an external antenna. The two connectors are matching two pigtails for TS-9 connector. If you want to buy external antenna for Huawei E5786, you could refer to this one: http://www.4gltemall.com/4g-antenna-two-ts-9-connector.html

The maximum possible speed of Huawei E5786 is 300 megabits per second on the downlink and 50 megabits per second in the uplink. In a real test, the maximum of 122 Mbit/s can be achieved on LTE 800MHz. In the UMTS network, up to 30 MBit/s in downlink is possible.
The wireless module has been significantly upgraded compared to its predecessor Huawei E5776. It can now either spark to 2.4 or 5 GHz. A further improvement can be found at the speed: the Huawei E5786 wireless-controlled ac (gross 433 Mbit/s), so that is the full LTE speed of 300 Mbit/s can also be used via WiFi and not only via USB. In the test, the range of the wireless network was pretty good, even through two walls at a distance of about 10 meters; you could still easily surf and stream HD video.

Another interesting feature is the repeater mode, which provides one important advantage in comparison to an ordinary repeater: the WLAN is not just strengthened, but also the E5786 is logged into an existing wireless network and uses this information as Internet access. This is, for example, ideal when the wireless network allows only one terminal, but you want to use multiple devices. Maximum up to 10 devices could connect to the Huawei E5786 wirelessly.

Operation of the Huawei E5786 can be done through a web interface in the browser of your computer, tablet or smartphone. The first step is very simple, in the normal case, the SIM card is automatically detected and the Hotspot configures itself. For more settings, user need log in the web interface, or the Huawei Mobile WiFi app from Android or Apple smartphones. A corresponding QR code, which directs one to the App Store, you can let the QR code show on the screen of the E5786. A few functions are also selected directly on the device. This includes, for example, the selection of the wireless channel (2.4 or 5 GHz) or the wireless repeater function.

All in all, the software has been significantly optimized for the Huawei E5786 compared to its predecessor and runs very smoothly. The display shows the most important information, such as reception signal, consumed data volume and network technology on the front. For most users, the Web Interface or the Mobile WiFi app is rarely needed.

The Huawei E5786 is without question the best MiFi router till now. With support for LTE-Advanced Cat6, the E5786 is very future-proof, reception and data rates may convince and the battery lasts for around 10 hours.
From the fourth quarter of 2014, the Huawei E5786 is no branding and commercially available on www.4gltemall.com . As an alternative, if you are interested in this new 4G pocket WiFi router, it’s time to get one.

Huawei E5577C 4G Mobile Hotspot Review

We had the news about Huawei E5577 for a long time, and we are lucky to get one unit to test last week. The model number is Huawei E5577C. The E5577C is a very small and lightweight LTE MiFi Hotspot, and it looks like the Huawei E5377. The Huawei E5577C provides speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s in the downlink and 50 Mbit/s in the uplink, and it has a replaceable battery of 1500 mAh and has a display on the front to show connection information. The system can be operated via the browser or via an app on your smartphone or tablet.

Appearance
The Huawei E5577C comes in a small white cardboard box and is available in black or white. The battery is not loaded in the device but is separately together with a very short USB charging cable in the package. A power adapter for charging your battery is not supplied, in my opinion, it is also unnecessary because the USB cable can connect to the power adapter for your smartphones or tablets.

The Huawei E5577C is with dimensions of 96.8 x 58 x 13.5 millimeters and weighs 85 grams, which is a very compact and lightweight. This makes the device ideal fits naturally into your pocket, purse or backpack. All parts packed are good and the battery cover can be easily removed for inserting the battery, SIM card, and memory card.

* 2x External antenna connector type TS-9  (Buy Huawei E5577 external antenna)

* Display 128 × 128 pixels

* Removable Battery 1500 mAh

Operation & Software
The configuration of the Huawei E5577C is very simple. Normally, everything is already done with the first launch and the router E5577C configures itself depending on the inserted SIM card. The wireless connection is encrypted from the factory, the password can be found in the battery bay or on the display. Unfortunately, it cannot hide from the display. Some functions, such as the choice of the wireless frequency band can be set directly on the E5577C using the menu button, the power button and the display. For other settings, you need to use the HiLink app for Android or iOS operating systems, or access to the web interface. To do this, you need just simply calls the browser’s address 192.168.8.1.

In the web interface, there are detailed statistics on the internet, you can send and receive SMS and you can share files and folders on the network when inserted MicroSD memory card. There is also a menu item to update the firmware. In the settings menu, there are several configuration options available for WLAN and network. Overall, the web interface of the E5577C is quite extensive and easy to operate!

Network Technology
Huawei E5577C supports LTE by category 4 with up to 150 MBit/s in the downlink and 50 Mbit/s in the uplink. Actually, LTE Cat4 is not the latest new technology. Here now there is LTE Category 6 mobile hotspot Huawei E5786 available. But new technology means user need pay more money to enjoy it. For most users, the LTE Cat4 modem in E5577C will provide sufficient speeds and in testing, it can achieve top speeds of up to 140 Mbit/s. In the UMTS network the data accelerator DC-HSPA+ is of course supported, so here theoretically up to 42.2 Mbit/s can be achieved in the downlink. In practice, you should reach the speed of no more than 32 Mbit/s.

Unfortunately, there is no way for the Huawei E5577C set to a specific network technology. The only option is the use of LTE-on and to turn off. Compared to several other mobile hotspots, this is a big disadvantage.

WLAN and battery
The Huawei E5577 supplies up to 10 devices simultaneously via WLAN with an Internet connection. Extra one unit can also be connected via USB, so the router can also be used on computers without a WLAN. The E5577C will support both 2.4 GHz wireless and the area around 5 GHz. However, the latest wireless standard AC is not integrated with Huawei E5577C. An interesting feature is a wireless repeater, referred to as Huawei WiFi Extender or WiFi Offload. Thus, the E5577C use an existing Internet connection via WLAN as access.

The battery can provide up to 6 hours operating time per the manufacturer instructions. If necessary, the battery can always be replaced, a great advantage to other mobile hotspots with a fixed battery.

Conclusion: Huawei E5577C
Overall, Huawei E5577C is a good mobile LTE hotspot. The equipment is light and the dimensions are pockets compatible. However, as a new 4g mobile hotspot, the price may be a little high as expected. If you want better power support, you can get a spare battery backup. Here now, there are Huawei E5377, E5377T, E5878 available from the same manufacturer.

Huawei E5373 4G Mobile Router Review

The Huawei E5373 is a small cellular router for speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s via LTE. Unlike many other MiFi hotspots, the model does not have a display on the front, but the rest of the equipment is quite good and the price is attractively lower than many comparable devices. We will review more details about Huawei E5373 in this article.

The Huawei E5373 has an integrated cellular modem for speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s in the downlink and 50 Mbit/s in the uplink via LTE. Of course, the slightly older UMTS network is available, then the data accelerator DC-HSPA+ up to 42.2 Mbit/s in the downlink and up to 5.76 Mbit/s in the uplink is possible. Also GSM with EDGE is supported. As for FDD-LTE, the frequency bands are supported on 800/900/1800/2100/2600Mhz. So you are free use the unlocked Huawei E5373 in many countries in Europe. But you will have trouble to use it in North America, because the device will be unable to work in the LTE networks there.

If you want to improve the speed and optimize receive and transmit power, you may need an external LTE MIMO antenna to connect to Huawei E5373. There are two connectors for external antenna, which are hidden at side of the Huawei E5373 under a cover. The connector type is TS-9, you could refer to the 4G antenna: http://www.4gltemall.com/4g-antenna-two-ts-9-connector.html

The connection to terminal equipment is normally done via Wi-Fi, although a use as a USB modem is possible using the MicroUSB interface. The wireless module operates on the 802.11a/b/g/n, ie on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Thus the Huawei E5373 can also be used in environments where the 2.4 GHz band is overloaded. A maximum of 10 devices can be connected simultaneously via wireless to the E5373 router.

The battery is 1500 mAh strong and easily replaceable by the user. It is designed to ensure an operating time of about 6 hours, according to Huawei. On the front of the Huawei E5373, 5 LEDs were integrated, which indicate its operating status. There is also a microSD slot for file sharing in Huawei E5373. If you use a corresponding memory card in the device, so you can share files and folders on the network.

The Huawei E5373 is now available on www.4gltemall.com . As a similar model to Huawei E5372, here now we can’t tell what the real difference between them is. But new device is always better than old one. Huawei mobile WiFi is always leading the mainstream in the wireless pocket WiFi. We believe Huawei E5373 will be popular soon.

Huawei E5573 4G Mobile WiFi Hotspot Review

Huawei released many new 4G Pocket WiFi in 2015. They are named at the same former of E5XXX, so use may feel confused about the name. As we know, there is new 4G mobile router Huawei E5577, E5573, E5373, E5377, E5770…It’s good to name them by number, but it’s hard for end users to identify what’s the difference between them, and to choose the best one for use. As a classical series product, Huawei E5 always brings surprise to us. Today, we will introduce a new mobile hotspot E5573.

Like other Huawei E5 mobile WiFi, Huawei E5573 is now available for many network providers worldwide, such as Plus+, Orange, EE, 3, Chine Unicom etc…From the appearance, we can see the power button is on the middle of the front. The Huawei logo is printed on the power button. At the left side the button, it’s the signal strength indicator. On the right side, it’s the battery indicator. User can see the signal and power status from the indicators’ colors.

Appearance
The Huawei E5377T is packed in a cardboard box, where the most important technical data are shown. Next to the device itself, there is a plug adapter with USB port and a short USB to Micro-USB cable to charge the mobile WLAN hotspot. At first glance, the Huawei E5377T is packaged in white high-gloss plastic and is surrounded by a silver trim ring. On the front you will find a monochrome display and the power button. On the upper side, there is a menu button on the lower side and the Micro-USB port for charging. In addition to the micro-USB port, there are also two CRC-9 connectors for an external antenna. The compact dimensions and the comparatively strong battery of 3,560 mAh make Huawei E5377T look quite thick, the weight is higher than many other mobile LTE hotspots.

Software: web interface and app
The establishment of Huawei E5377T is quite simple: first you open the battery compartment and inserts the SIM card. It will also work with nano(with card adpater) and micro-SIM card, here one should be a bit careful, so as not to damage the contacts. After the battery is inserted and start the router via the power button. Since the wireless connection is secured, you have to enter a password: this is with the wireless network name in the battery cover or the display of the device. Now you only have to enter the PIN code, then the internet is already connected to the Internet.

There are two methods to enter the PIN code and do the general operation and configuration of Huawei E5377T. First, of course, the web interface, which is accessible from any browser at the IP address 192.168.8.1. Secondly, it’s possible to control over the Huawei HiLink app from smartphones and tablets. The app can be download either in the App Store search, or you can directly scan a QR code that is shown on the device.

The configuration is done completely automatically. Nevertheless, the web interface or the app for many users will be important, for example, to change the wireless network name and password, or to view the usage statistics. Also the optional MicroSD memory card can be accessed through the web interface and app.

Fast Internet with LTE Cat4
The modem of Huawei E5377T is Huawei HiSilicon. The maximum speed is 150 Mbit/s for the downlink and 50 Mbit/s for the uplink, this must be posted in the LTE network and the network operators support these speeds. LTE Cat6 with Carrier Aggregation is unfortunately not supported, if you prefer LTE cat6 for even faster speeds, you have to turn to Huawei E5786.

Of course the Huawei E5377T is also backward compatible with GSM and UMTS. In 3G network via DC-HSPA+, download speeds of up to 42.2 megabits per second in the downlink are possible and HSUPA up to 5.76 Mbit/s can be achieved. User can setup the preferred network in the web interface and app. Sometimes, the network signal is weak, you can also connect an external antenna. These are two CRC-9 ports. With external antenna, the device can get stable and better network.

WLAN and battery
Maximum 10 devices can be connected wirelessly via WLAN from the Huawei E5377T simultaneously. Another one unit can use the Internet connection via USB cable. It’s sparked either the 2.4 GHz band or 5 GHz band. Although the latter has a shorter range and is not supported by all devices, but it offers a much freer connecting, making it at trade fairs or big events easily available. The wireless band can be adjusted directly on the device via the small screen by the menu and power button, a simultaneous operation of both frequency bands is not possible.

The maximum speed via WLAN is 300 Mbit/s. Unfortunately, the latest WLAN ac standard is not supported. The Huawei E5377T has another special feature: the Wireless Extender. The Wireless Extender mode is directly switched on the device via the small screen by the menu and power button, however, the configuration is done via the software.

The battery has a capacity of 3,560 mAh and can be easily replaceable by the user. Under the battery there is the slot for the SIM card (standard size 2FF) and the MicroSD memory card. In addition, user can find the information about the access for wireless and web interface and device-specific information such as the IMEI number. The battery provides the manufacturer for a period of about 12 hours.

Conclusion
The Huawei E5377T is a good mobile LTE router. Despite heavy battery, the model is quite compact and can be taken easily in pocket. The functionality is with Dual Band WLAN, LTE Cat4 and connections for an external antenna and worked well in the test as you would expect. All you get with the Huawei E5377T is a very well-equipped mobile LTE router, which you can recommend without restrictions.

Huawei CarFi E8377 Hotspot Test

A Wi-Fi hotspot in the car – this feature is so far available only for a few cars of the upper middle class and upper class. Huawei changed the cigarette lighter connector for new Carfì hotspot for 12V. Users can reach up to 150 MBit/s via LTE through the Huawei Carfì Hotspot, of course, the CarFi can also a fallback to 3G and 2G. But the Carfì wireless router is really as good as the expensive installation solutions from car producer? In this test, we find out the answer.

Appearance and Technology

Huawei Carfì Hotspot is conducted under the Model Number Huawei E8377 and comes in a nice package for buyers. The scope of supply is tight, next to the hotspot itself there is  a Quick Start Guide, a brochure with safety instructions and an indication of the Huawei HiLink app included. The Huawei Carfì Hotspot is kept in a matt black plastic and the front is equipped with a carbon look, which is likely to look smart in almost any car. On the front there is also the power button, which simultaneously serves as an indicator of the reception strength by the underlying LED. A yellow LED indicates poor UMTS / LTE receiver while a green LED indicates good reception.

Of course, you need a SIM card with the appropriate data plan for the operation of Huawei Carfì. The card must be in micro-SIM format and is inserted under the side cover in the Carfì hotspot. Under the cover you will find also a reset button and a connector for an external antenna. There is a integrated rechargeable battery; so user can operate Huawei router Carfì in the car and can take the CarFi in a meeting or outdoors.

The maximum speed in the LTE network is 150 Mbit/s over LTE Cat4. According to Huawei, the Huawei CarFi supports frequency bands by 800/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz. If no LTE times are available,  you can also use 3G (up to 42.2 Mbit/s) and 2G. In the test of the handover between the different network technologies, Huawei CarFi can work smoothly while driving. The reception is in both LTE and UMTS, but no better than most smartphones. Those who expect a good reception will be disappointed by Huawei Carfì or possibly should directly connect an external antenna. If you want the antenna for Huawei CarFi, click here: http://www.4gltemall.com/external-antenna-for-huawei-4g-lte-usb-modem.html

The wireless module operates on the 802.11 b/g/n, ie on the frequency band around 2.4 GHz. The area around 5 GHz is not supported. The signal is strong enough to cover larger cars.

Control via App
Once you have the Huawei Carfì Hotspot connect it to a cigarette lighter connector, it must be turned on manually before use each time. Before first use you should write down or take a picture of the WLAN key, because as soon as the device is plugged in, it’s different for to read the key. Also, one should previously load the Huawei HiLink app to Android or iOS device, because that is for the establishment and the operation.

Connection parameters like APN or access numbers can’t not be stored. The Huawei Carfì can automatically recognized the SIM card from Vodafone and Orange in the test and the data stored accordingly. Only the PIN code must be entered, if enabled. The Huawei HiLink app allows various settings, for example, you can configure the name and password of the WLAN network. A wireless guest network with a separate name and password can be set up, ideal for guests in the car or for taxi drivers.

Connection information such as data consumption, connected wireless devices and the online time are displayed graphically in the app. The firmware of Huawei Carfì can easily be updated online. A major disadvantage of Huawei HiLink app: the test with Android smartphones, the program fell on extremely high energy consumption. Here Huawei should urgently provide an update for Remedy.
In the test, we can find Huawei Carfì has two major disadvantages: firstly, the device must be turned on every time manually, if you want to use it, a start on some cars are not possible, at least for a VW Golf VI, a Ford Galaxy and a Renault Scenic. Second, only the internal antenna is used in the hot spot, whereas fixed-mounted solutions always use the external antenna, thus naturally have much better reception conditions.
Nevertheless, the Huawei Carfì Hotspot is recommended as a retrofit solution definitely, because all the promised features are well met. Of course, you could also have a mobile wireless router with battery, the Carfì Hotspot is significantly more convenient.
